Job description:
The Application Engineer / BI role is responsible for the architecture, support and maintenance of the Business Intelligence (BI) hardware and software for the organization.

Primary Responsibilities May Include:

*Designs, implements, monitors, maintains, supports and troubleshoots enterprise BI architecture ensuring high performance, reliability, security and availability for production, test and development environments.
*Responsible for coordination and application of all patches, upgrades and configuration changes to the servers and applications in the BI environment.
*Ensures execution of scheduled reports, report caches, OLAP cube migrations and events.
*Performs performance tuning and configuration customizations as required by service level agreement with the business.
*Responsible for backups and disaster recovery plan of enterprise BI environment.
*Maintains proper level of auditing as determined by compliance requirements of the business.
*Leads coordination of the QA test process and migration of objects through the change control process.
*Coordinates with Project Managers and participates in project planning for BI architecture support.
*Supports business partners and developers during iterative revisions.
*Provides tier 3 on-call support for BI application and performance issues.
*Maintains documentation of architecture, configuration, customizations and schedules.

Competencies for Success:

*2 or more years experience administering Cognos Series 7 (PowerPlay, Transformer), Series 8 (Framework Manager, Report Studio, Query Studio, Analysis Studio and Event Studio).
*Experience with virtual server environments such as VMWare.
*Excellent SQL skills, UNIX shell scripting experience a plus.
*Strong understanding of data integration.
*Experience working with Oracle (i.e. SQLPlus, TOAD).
*Experience with performance testing tools such as LoadRunner.
*Understanding of load balancing methods and options.
*Strong communications skills, ability to work in a team environment.
*Experience working with multi-divisional business communities to leverage information across the enterprise to improve business effectiveness.
