Desired Skills and Experience

The Ruby on Rails Software Engineer will be responsible for adding high quality, scalable functionality to our fast-growing SOA platform. In addition to traffic on www.itriagehealth.com, the SOA platform receives a large amount of traffic from the iTriage mobile apps on iPhone and Android.

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Ruby on Rails specific experience
    3+ years experience developing applications using Ruby on Rails.
    5+ years total software engineering experience
    BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
    BDD & TDD – proficient with test frameworks such as RSpec
    SQL (experience with MySQL, Postgres or equivalent)
    RESTful API design experience

    Strong software engineering fundamentals

Key Responsibilities

*        Perform tasks such as systems planning, configuring systems, installing software, providing guidance in technical meetings, defining standards, assisting with research and design for architectural issues, assisting/providing status updates, attending project meetings and implementation support of new applications

*        Supporting all of Virtela's Enterprise applications. Support primarily java developers, applications integrators, DBAs, Global Operations Centers, and numerous scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Ruby, Python, and Java )

*        Automating and improving existing processes

*        Managing development, testing and production VM and physical server environments

*        Acting as a key member (support/consult/lead) on various application's BSS/OSS projects

*        Managing capacity, develop process, design systems architecture and perform technology refreshes

*        Skills & Attributes

*        Strong customer service attitude with superior people skills

*        Highly self-motivated. Willingness to take ownership of tasks and drive them to completion

*        Strong skills for automation of repeatable work

*        Able to lead troubleshooting, optimization, and performance tuning of applications, databases, and Unix systems

*        Mastery of GNU/Linux (Redhat/CentOS/Fedora/Ubuntu), expertise with Logical Volume Managers, network troubleshooting, bash, Python and/or Perl programming

*        Knowledge of Internet services, systems monitoring and management, and open source tools with emphasis on SMTP, HTTP, LDAP, SQL, and DNS

*        Ability to perform 24x7x365 on-call duty with other systems team members

*        Strong SAN experience. iSCSI experience is a plus

*        OpenStack and CEPH distributed file system experience is a plus

*        Cobbler, PXE boot, Kickstart and Spacewalk/RHN Satellite server experience a plus

*        Cisco/ Dell / IBM / Sun hardware experience and knowledge. Experience with Blade hardware is a plus

Minimum Requirements

*        Strong CentOS and Ubuntu management skills

*        Superior puppet skills. Experience writing manifests is required. Hiera, PuppetDB, and Puppet 3 experience are a plus

*        Strong experience with the KVM and VMware hypervisors. Xen and HyperV experience are a plus

*        Strong documentation skills

*        Willingness to work out of system team's work queue

*        Understanding of Systems design and the OSI model

*        Strong  general automation skills. This includes scripting, automated monitoring, and automated VM deployments

*        Strong Subversion and/or Git VCS skills

*        Experience with Nagios or Zabbix monitoring software, specifically writing scripts to extend monitoring capabilities

*        Linux cluster experience

*        Hands on experience with Solaris

The Data Services team maintains the infrastructure that provides us with Big Data from all the uses of all our different products. We then use that data to divine meaning, test hypotheses, and enable data-driven decisions and solutions for both ourselves and our customers.

As a member of the MapQuest Data Services team, you must be a team player, and a power-house in getting stuff done quickly and professionally. You must be energetic, positive and outgoing.
You will be responsible for executing business requirements into unit tested functional code, designing creative solutions to thorny problems, and operating in tandem with other team members to co-ordinate work.

While every day as is different, this is what your responsibilities include:

  1.  New Features- take user stories, deconstruct them into tasks, and execute upon those tasks in 1-week sprints, that fulfill business asks for new functionality.
  2.  Technical Debt reduction - The Data Team has a sense of pride and ownership in what we do. To maintain that, we always seek to undo old hacks or shortcuts, improve the systems we have, and implement better ways of doing things, without requiring that the Business ask us to do so.
  3.  Data Analysis & Munging - Data is a massive part of what we do every day. You'll need to be able to manipulate data, crunch it, and sling it around the place with ease.
  4.  System Health- We have large production systems that have to keep running. We're always working to improve monitoring, up-time, performance, and scalability.
  5.  Having Brilliant ideas & helping the group execute on them - The Data Team is always looking to be ahead of the customer. We are always working on our own projects too, dreamed up inside the team, to improve the product.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
There are many items listed below. Don't be scared.  Ultimately as long as you are a good, solid Java developer, have some of the items, have the right attitude, and are the right fit for the team, you can learn the rest on the job.

  *  3+ years of Java
  *  SQL required, preferably postgres.  PostGIS experience is a major plus
  *  Some build system experience required, Gradle is a plus
  *  Hadoop / Storm / Kafka experience are a major plus
  *  Test Driven Development methodology
  *  ETL or Data cleansing & normalizing experience is a major plus
  *  Experience developing web APIs and SOA
  *  Experience in Agile development methodologies
  *  Git experience is a plus
  *  Nagios experience is a major plus
  *  Any Big Data technologies are pluses and we would be interested in hearing about
  *  Data analysis, log mining and automated reporting experience is a major plus.
  *  Experience with Tableau Desktop & Server is also a major plus
  *  A sense of humor is required, and a wicked aim with a nerf gun is a plus.

Description:

The Yieldex technical account manager works with multiple Yieldex clients as their dedicated Yieldex technical resource.
