DIRECTV is seeking a Systems Developer at our Castle Rock Broadcast Center located in Castle Rock, Colorado. The Systems Analyst will work with a team of engineers responsible for the software configuration management and test of network monitoring systems applications. The Systems Developer will be responsible for the following:


Defining and setting up a network management system and/or procedures to handle software configuration management, software builds; and successful deployment of software applications developed using C/C++, Java, SQL, JSP, DHTML and XML on UNIX, LINUX and Windows platforms
Administering and developing for EMC/Smarts, open source NMS tools, SQL (Sybase, Oracle and MySQL), BMC/Remedy, IP sub netting and routing.






Bachelors degree in computer science/engineering or related field is required.

At least 4 years practical experience in network management system development and configuration management required.

Experience administering and developing for EMC/Smarts, open source NMS tools, SQL (Sybase, Oracle and MySQL), BMC/Remedy, IP sub netting and routing required.
Experience with C/C++, Java,VB , Perl, Shell scripting (DOS and LINUX) programming required.

Knowledge of fundamental IP and network design concepts and database technologies is a must.

An understanding of NMS platforms and technologies required.

An understanding of ISO20000/ITIL practices required.

Must be capable of working successfully in a deadline-driven, team-oriented environment.

Excellent written/verbal communication, problem-solving, and analytical abilities required.

Solid planning, organizational, and follow-up skills required.

The Global Database Administration (DBA) Team leads the company's database projects, environments and systems. The DBA team is accountable for providing a robust and stable data management environment for high volume OLTP functionality 24/7/365. The DBA team supports all production database management environments including SQL Server, Oracle and DB2 across Windows, UNIX and z/OS platforms. The Director of Global Database Administration leads technical projects, manages staff, and coordinates activities with other departments. The Director develops the DBA staff and ensures their skills remain at the highest level achievable. Other responsibilities include participating in planning sessions with other IT Divisions as new projects are requested by the various business units. The director determines the strategies IT implements regarding the management, maintenance and implementation of relational database technologies. The director reports directly to Vice President of IT Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure exceptional production stability and 99.999% availability for all RDBMS.
Provide guidance, technical expertise, and escalation for a team consisting of 12-15 database administrators.
Mentor staff, constantly improving performance, productivity, and quality.
Serve as project leader for database initiatives. Develop project plans, assign and manage resources, identify and solve problems, meet deliverables.
Participate in the management approval process for all changes to the company's database and server platforms.
Establish baseline performance and availability measurements. Monitor proactively and report regularly on performance and availability metrics.
Manage data at rest encryption solutions, including all related processes and resources.
Ensure RDBMS meet PCI, SOX and SAS 70 compliance.
Develop and document technology standards. Meet all documentation and procedural requirements in accordance with Western Union standards.
Evaluate emerging database technologies for application in the company's environment.
Develop, implement, and maintain disaster recovery plans for critical production databases and applications.
Participate in varied strategic projects and IT steering committees as required and perform other job-related duties as necessary.
Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion.

BS Degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent work experience will be considered. Must have 7+ years of large scale RDBMS experience and 3+ years experience managing technical staff.

Expert level knowledge of SQL programming, stored procedures, triggers and functions.
Expert level knowledge of database administration best practices including backups, maintenance, performance tuning and monitoring.
Significant knowledge of data management and data warehousing concepts across a variety of DBMS.
Ability to integrate procedural steps and processes with technical requirements and system functions to assure successful delivery of work.
Experience with following a formal project management and change management methodology to the implementation of new and upgrading existing systems.
Experience with data at rest encryption solutions is a plus.
SOX and PCI compliance experience is desirable.
Prior experience with 24/7 support of high volume OLTP databases.
Experience in the integration and operational management of high availability enterprise wide systems.
Strong leadership experience, including successful project or change management accomplishments.
Excellent personnel management skills, ability to relate to the DBA staff and provide appropriate technical leadership.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
Strong training and presentation skills in individual and group settings.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
