Rocky Mountain Health Plans - Senior Database Administrator, Senior Systems Administrator

Senior Database Administrator (DBA) - Grand Junction, Colorado

We are seeking a seasoned Database Administrator (DBA) to provide technical expertise in database design, development, performance tuning and maintenance. Manage production/test/development environment including installation, configuration, backup, recovery, upgrades, and schema changes. Responsible for the daily monitoring and maintenance of enterprise databases; testing and applying Sybase release updates; monitoring, managing, and maintaining backup and recovery schedules for database servers. Work closely with Computer Operations and troubleshooting any application related issues.

* Maintain database user logins, passwords and privileges
* Maintain database integrity and security
* Monitor database system resources and performance
* Implement change control procedures for appropriate DBMS
* Manage availability, backup, restoration and recovery systems with the database
* Handle storage management, performance, monitoring and tuning of the database
* Coordinate database design to ensure optimum performance and conformance to standards
* Communicate all changes to the database system to appropriate individuals
* Evaluate conditions and needs and recommend changes regarding database design
* Develop solutions to hardware and operating system problems
* Coordinate database system upgrades with IT staff, end users and vendors
* Maintain documentation related to database development platform guidelines, methods and standards
* Provides technical leadership to peers and junior personnel within the team
* Perform management functions in absence of manager
* A as a technical project manager for major projects

Requires a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Science, related field, or the combination of education and experience. Requires 5 years related progressive experience. Requires strong UNIX, Linux, and Windows experience and experience with Sybase.

Senior Systems Administrator - Grand Junction, Colorado

Ensure optimum reliability, performance, availability, and security of Unix operating system.

Provide system support, implementation, installation, configuration, monitoring, integrity, and maintenance for UNIX, HPUX, Facets, Sybase, Macess, Novell, Lotus, and Windows software and systems. Ensure vendor application software is installed correctly and all current maintenance levels have been applied.

Analyze computer malfunctions, processing delays and errors. Assist in establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving a comprehensive security program and Disaster Recovery Plan that includes backup and recovery strategies.

Monitor and report system device capacities, compliance, license, usage, and status. Provide for efficient computer operation, including total throughput, CPU use, peripheral operations, application performance statistics, and maintenance documentation.

Coordinate, communicate and control system and hardware tuning and integration, and all changes, modifications, enhancements, or alterations, which may alter normal operation of systems and maintain appropriate documentation.


Requires a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Computer Science, related field, or the combination of education and experience. Requires at least 3 years Unix OS experience and a desire to thrive in a fast-paced team environment. Experience with relational databases and some application support would be a plus.
