The Associate Director, IT position is primarily responsible for managing large cross-association projects with profound technical ramifications, building relationships with key stakeholders throughout the association, and devising creative "out of the box" solutions for various association needs. This position requires an individual with a strong technical and project management background, excellent facilitation skills, and the ability to think big about the future of technology and how it could be used to best serve EDUCAUSE's membership. This is not an operational support position, and it has no direct reports. This position reports to the Director of Information Technology.

Responsibilities

€ * Manages large strategic projects that transcend departmental lines and require a high degree of technical knowledge.
€ o Facilitates dialog with project stakeholders to define objectives, goals, deliverables, and expected outcomes; devises methods for measuring results.
€ o Identifies needed resources, including staff time and budgets.
€ o Creates implementation schedules with clearly defined milestones and associated tasks; revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
€ o Prepares RFPs and conducts necessary conversations to facilitate selection of services and products.
€ o Serves as key resource for project information; regularly interfaces with staff, project team members, and service providers to provide continuous visibility into project status including any deviations from plan and associated mitigations.
€ o Creates and maintains complete and current project documentation.
€ * Participates in various cross-departmental teams, bringing a broad and creative vision to connect the dots between needs and potential solutions.
€ * Assists in creating and implementing an ongoing IT strategy.

Required experience

€ * Minimum 5 years progressive experience in the information technology field.
€ * Minimum 2 years experience applying project management methodologies to successfully manage concurrent complex cross-functional projects with heavy technical emphasis.
€ * Extensive knowledge of contemporary technology applications & processes and demonstrated ability to effectively apply creative and strategic technology solutions to a wide range of business challenges.
€ * Ability to synthesize complex technical information and communicate it in a clear, concise, and understandable fashion to staff at all levels of an organization.
€ * Ability to work effectively with colleagues and team members in distributed locations.
€ * Ability to facilitate group discussions to quick and efficient decisions.
€ * A comprehensive understanding of complex organizational relationships and an ability to demonstrate influence within such an environment.
€ * Expertise in multi-tasking and reprioritizing as situations change.
€ * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred experience

€ * Experience creating technology plans that align to strategic directions.
€ * Experience in higher education and/or the not-for-profit/association environment.
