Job Description:
Department is responsible for designing and developing software for data management applications within the Open Storage Division of Oracle.
This position is for an experienced engineer who can analyze an integrated software/hardware system from end to end. This individual must be able to research the interactions amongst multiple layers of a complex integrated system and determine performance bottlenecks and their root cause; utilizing this knowledge the person is required to recommend and potentially prototype specific system modifications to improve performance These bottlenecks may be endemic to the design, or may be an artifact of a specific customer deployment, this engineer needs to deal with either case with equal expertise.
The specific skills needed for this position are many and varied, several of the most important are listed below.
Oracle DBA skills including performance/query tuning, table/index mapping.
Solaris, Linux and Windows System Administration skills
Performance tracing/analysis tools on specific operating systems (Dtrace, Windows performance toolkit, etc)
Experience with commercial backup, HSM and archiving software
Programming in one or more of the following high level languages (in order of preference)
C
C++
Java
Perl/Python
Unix Shell Script
Windows Shell
Application level programming with relational databases, specifically Oracle , utilizing various database interface methodologies (command line sql, jdbc, odbc, etc).
Detailed understanding of backup and archive concepts. Hands on familiarity with one or more commercial products in this space.
Experience with networking protocols throughout the stack. Particular emphasis on Fibre Channel, Infiniband, 10G Ethernet, TCP/IP, NFS, NDMP
High level of expertise in parallel and multi-threaded programming techniques and optimization. Hands on work with multi-core processor program optimizations.
