TIAA-CREF - Oracle DBA

Manages and maintains all production and non-production database.
Responsible for standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance, access and security administration.
Responsible for design and correct functioning of backup and recovery on DBMSs.
Configures database parameters, creates prototype designs against logical data models, and defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries and warehousing requirements.
Optimizes database access and allocates/re-allocates database resources for optimum configuration, database performance and cost.
Evaluates and implements new initiatives on technology and process improvement.
Develops database and warehousing designs across multiple platforms and computing environments.
Serves as SME in all aspects of data management and database design.
Serves as initial point of escalation for all processing and operational issues.
Serves as SME in all aspects of DBMS software.
Provides mentoring and training to junior staff.
Assists management in coordinating business area activities and balancing workload.
May design, implement and improve workflows, as well as assign projects.
Leads interdepartmental or interdivisional operational project initiatives.
Proactively stays current on emerging technologies
Performs capacity monitoring and short and long-term capacity planning in collaboration with development resources, system administrators and system architects
Identifies potential service level problems before they occur and notifies appropriate parties
Creates written reports of findings and recommendations on performance analysis, feasibility studies, and proof of concept evaluations
Ensures compliance in related tasks with company and regulatory policies and procedures and delivers on-call support for critical database applications as needed
Assists in the development of project plans and deliverable lists for proposed projects
Develops and maintains database standards, conventions, data dictionaries, data element naming standards
Support of daily operations including job monitoring and troubleshooting of the 24x7 production environment
Design, develop, and maintain back-up strategy

Knowledge of all DBMS environments and product interdependencies, as well as all major business unit application portfolios.
Leads others to ensure all DBMS related functions are completed and ensures quality of execution, using trend data to lead continuous improvement efforts.
Trains others to fully understand the process steps, expected outcomes and any appropriate tools.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field.
6 plus years of IT / DBMS work experience.
Unix experience
Typically experienced across multiple IT areas and all DBMSs.
Serves as point of escalation for complex issues.
Responsible for developing and executing project plans, as well as coordinating groups of IT staff.
Sybase, SQL Server experience a plus
