POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the database design/development and database administration of SLS databases used by SLS associates, customers and investors. Associates in this position will design and develop applications in a Microsoft development environment and will be responsible for adhering to current SLS development procedures and techniques.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform SQL Server database administration tasks, including, but not limited to: Create/manage database maintenance, backup and disaster recovery processes, manage user/object security, create scripts to maintain database objects, implement and optimize DTS/SSIS packages, capacity planning. Lead and make design decisions to create simple, elegant and re-usable software components as a part of larger enterprise applications. Design, develop, test and implement SQL Server databases and applications utilizing SLS standard development procedures and techniques, that support the requirements defined by users and analysts. Develop system documentation for all developed applications and databases, including flowcharts and data models. Work collaboratively with team members and business partners in defining, designing, developing and implementing technology solutions to improve business functions. Work closely with development team, project managers and executives to ensure the release of high quality products. Translate customer requirements, recommend system solutions, and formulate detailed specifications from which enterprise applications are developed. Work closely with business partners to produce quality products that meet business needs. Lead the technical design, development, testing and implementation of SQL Server applications utilizing SLS standard development procedures and techniques that support the requirements defined by users and analysts. Responsible for providing input to the data architecture definition including structure, interfaces, and distribution strategy to ensure that business needs are supported in an integrated and value-added manner. Ensure that standards for database performance, availability and security are being met. Analyze database applications/queries and implement improvements to optimize performance. Lead design and implementation efforts of project teams and development efforts, which includes the design and execution of acceptance test plans to ensure a successful implementation. Responsible for suggesting, reviewing and justifying new technical tools and techniques and managing their implementation. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of development and production environments. Understand the total SLS IT computing environment and daily operations and understand the impact of planned changes. Provide tiered production support including limited on-call and participate in design and technical meetings. Track and report development progress and performance on a regular basis.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Familiarity with web development utilizing ASP.Net, VB.Net, ASP, VB Script, Javascript, HTML, XML, cascading stylesheets a plus. The ability to function as a team player and lead team members in large projects. Experience with other Microsoft languages and technologies, including MSMQ, Biztalk, Sharepoint, Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) and Team Foundation Server a plus. Solid understanding of SQL Server locking, indexing and error handling. Demonstrated experience with how to maximize SQL Server application scalability, performance, recoverability, and maintainability. Solid understanding of various schemas and their pros/cons: star schema, snowflake schema, 3rd normal form, etc. Demonstrated experience supporting data warehouses. Experience in creating reports in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) & Managing the SSRS Server . Experience with designing, developing, and deploying SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) databases and cubes & Managing the SSAS Server. Demonstrated ability to balance multiple concurrent projects of varying priorities and shift focus from one project to another with minimal loss of productivity or quality. Proficient in identifying project needs, estimating and prioritizing tasks, setting intermediate goals and milestones to accomplish the final outcome. A strong understanding of technical and infrastructure environments (data communications, web technologies, network, security, etc.) Must possess strong attention to detail, excellent relationship management skills, and the ability to effectively facilitate and lead design and implementation of software systems with development teams. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in high performance data design and architecture. Demonstrated experience with large scale database design and development on the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 platforms including normalization techniques, writing stored procedures, performance tuning, etc. Demonstrated experience with adhering to usability, design and development standards. Demonstrated experience with all aspects of unit testing, performance testing and user acceptance testing. In-depth experience with the development lifecycle and software development methodologies. Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic team environment and interact at all levels to ensure reliability, availability, scalability, and performance of applications. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent time management and project planning/strategizing skills. Strong analytical and problem resolution skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Loan servicing or mortgage lending experience a plus.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
B.S. or B.A. in Computer Science preferred.
2-3+ years of development work experience.
2-3+ years experience as a SQL Server DBA and database development and optimization.
2-3+ years of relational database experience within a multi-tiered environment; including use of database performance and monitoring tools.
2-3+ years experience with SQL coding including DDL, DML, stored procedures, DTS/SSIS, triggers and performance tuning.
Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) Certification preferred.
