DISH Network - Oracle Database Administrator

Create and maintain the Echostar database environment(s) with emphasis on uptime, consistency, scalability and performance.
Participate in on-call support of production databases on a rotating basis.
Pro-actively monitor production database for high availablity and performance.
Provide DBA support to assigned projects
Enforce best practices in all areas of database administration and architecture
Follow established standards. Develop and document new processes and procedures as necessary.
Installation, configuration, patching and upgrading of oracle server software (versions 8, 9 and 10).
Data modeling and database optimization
Involve in capacity planning for growth and changes
Must be flexible to support pre-scheduled after-hour or weekend work.


Education Requirements:


Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or 8 + years related experience and/or training; and four plus years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Qualifications:

Technical Skills-

Proven oracle database administration experience in production database environments supporting Terabyte databases on HP-UX, Solaris and windows.
Strong hands-on experience in monitoring and performance tuning using statspack and AWR reports.
Thorough with tuning SQL, pl/sql and applications for performance.
Fluent with unix korn shell scripting for automation and pro-active monitoring.
Familiar with hp-ux system monitoring tools.
Must be familiar with Oracle Snapshot technology. Oracle steams experience is desired.
Familiarity with Database console or Oracle grid is a big plus.
Proficient using RMAN for backup and recovery
Must have worked with help desk ticketing system and change control system in previous jobs
Familiarity with Web methods, Web Logic and basic java principles is a plus.
Understand oracle partitioning and other data warehouse concepts.

Excellent communication skills for production support and participating in strategic planning and project meetings.
A good team player. Willing to share and distribute knowlede through documentation.
Ability to multi-task and work independently on projects.
Ability to stay focused in tough/chaotic situations.
Continually broadens own technical, functional and industry skill base.

A minimum of 3-5 years of production support experience in UNIX environment.
A minimum of 3-5 years of development DBA experience.
Oracle certification is a plus.
