What You Offer

Responsible for the configuration, administration, and performance of a
high volume/high availability web hosting environment.

This classification is the second in a series of three levels within
the
Web Administration job family. Employees independently perform
assignments within established guidelines and procedures. Technical
guidance is received from higher-level staff. Employees are able to
identify moderately difficult problems and apply problem-solving skills
to resolve them, often under tight time constraints. Employees are
expected to participate in project teams, and will work closely with
Project Management, Web Development and Engineering groups.

Designs, configures, operates, documents, and maintains enterprise web
hosting infrastructure. Diagnoses and troubleshoots web application
issues. Participates on multiple project teams. Analyzes system and
network loads and modifies configurations to maximize performance,
security and functionality. Analyzes system efficiency by conducting
tests and running diagnostics to forecast performance thresholds.
Monitors and reports on system usage, and performance. Assists with
project evaluation and sizing. Assists in configuration of monitoring
applications. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science and
experience (typically 3-6 years) in systems/web administration is
necessary. An equivalent combination of education and related
experience may also serve to meet these minimum requirements.

Experience: 3-6 years web server administration

Skills: Strong interpersonal and communications skills; capable of
communicating project topics to technical and non technical audiences.
A solid understanding of IIS and Apache web hosting software. Ability
to troubleshoot and solve problems quickly and automate processes.
Prior experience with configuring and managing global load balancing
technologies. Prior experience with DNS management. Ability to
analyze
and deal effectively with difficult service delivery situations.
Typical
data center environment. Ability to lift or move equipment in excess
of
100 lbs

control of voice, data, and video network infrastructures on a central
and remote basis. Design, engineer, program, and maintain communication
networks to meet established service delivery standards and
customer/user needs.



This classification is the second in a series of three levels within
the
Network/Communications Engineer job family. Employees independently
perform assignments with in established guidelines and procedures.
Technical guidance is received from higher-level staff. Incumbents are
able to identify moderately difficult problems and apply
problem-solving
skills to resolve them, often under tight time constraints. Employees
are expected to participate in project teams, and be able to provide
formal or informal training in assigned areas. Contact with
customers/users involves reviewing needs and resolving issues.



Designs, configures, operates, documents, and maintains communication
network infrastructures. Analyzes network efficiency by conducting
network tests and running diagnostics to forecast performance
thresholds. Monitors and reports on network traffic, usage, and
performance. Makes recommendations and modifies network configuration
to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness. Assists in determining
appropriate architecture, topology, and transmission requirements for
installing voice, data and/or video applications. Reviews and analyzes
hardware and cabling specifications to assure compliance with
standards.
May make recommendations pertaining to the physical implementation of
infrastructure. Independently troubleshoots physical cable plant
problems and works with outside contractors to fix problems. May
participate in making recommendations regarding vendor service
relationships. Participates in project teams. Documents changes to
the
cable plant and is responsible for inventory management. Assists with
service installations and independently troubleshoots routine to
moderately complex service issues. Performs other duties as assigned.

experience (typically 3 to 6 years) supporting communication
infrastructures is necessary. An equivalent combination of education
and related experience may also serve to meet these minimum
requirements.



Experience: 3 to 6 years supporting communication infrastructures



Skills: Knowledge of all technologies used in projects and service
delivery. Knowledge and experience in installing, and maintaining
cable
plant infrastructures. Full understanding and ability to use
technologies to assist in planning, research and development work
and/or
troubleshooting for service support. Skill in analyzing systems and
specifications. Ability to interpret customer/user requirements and
use
engineering techniques to design network and transmission systems. A
technical understanding of networking technologies. Ability to present
projects to technical and non-technical senior staff. Ability to
respond quickly and effectively to uncertainty and constant changes in
technology.
