System Engineer, Ground Systems

SUMMARY:

A GIS influenced company is seeking a System Engineer with experience in large, distributed systems. The candidate must be able to learn a complex system, from customer front end through production. The candidate will be a member on the System Engineering team, responsible for the functional design of the DigitalGlobe Ground System including core image processing systems, interfaces with business systems, and web services initiatives. A successful candidate for this position would bring:



1) Strong working knowledge of Systems Engineering

2) Strong writing skills for generation of Concept of Operations, Interface Control and System Requirements documents

3) Familiarity with requirements management packages

4) Proven ability to work with diverse teams and take ownership of deliverables

5) Ability to make meaningful contributions to the overall Enterprise Architecture roadmap.

6) Previous experience in a complex product industry is a plus

7) Experience in the geospatial domain and standards is a plus



RESPONSIBILITIES:

· System Engineers are responsible for the definition, design and implementation of changes and enhancements to a world-class infrastructure for the delivery of geospatial information and products

· Work with other system engineers, product managers, developers and customers to define technical requirements

· Work with system architects to evolve the enterprise architecture

· Creation of System level requirements, and flow down to the segment and component level.

· Creation and maintenance of Concept of Operations documents

· Work with system and software engineers to review and upgrade the Ground System Architecture to enable rapid development and deployment of applications and services

· Work with QA to ensure rigorous load testing for stability and scalability



REQUIREMENTS:

· Strong written and oral skills

· Hands on person - must be able to be immersed in the system and to generate documentation

· Be a problem solver with sound judgment and decision-making skills.

· Possess practical knowledge of the design, development, and testing of complex systems with large throughput volumes

· Able to lead design sessions with clients from User Interface to Back Office

· Ability to accept and aggressively manage change (requirements, schedule, product issues, etc.)

· Manage client expectations to insure realistic deliverables and then exceed those expectations

· Ability to pursue and resolve Project and Product issues independently

· Strong teamwork skills

· Passionate about developing market leading solutions and driving adoption by technology partners



DESIREMENTS:

· Work with custom and vendor supplied solutions

· Vendor and contract management experience

· Performance measuring and tuning experience

· Familiarity with OGC standards

· Full knowledge of RUP/iterative development methodologies with implementation experience

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Software development and documentation experience in Java, C++ and scripting languages

MINIMUM LEVEL OF EDUCATION:
Masters or equivalent experience

FIELD OF STUDY:

Aerospace, Computer Science or other technical degree

Business Systems Engineer - DIGITALGLOBE

We are seeking a Business System Engineer with significant experience implementing large, complex enterprise business systems. Be involved at all phases of the development lifecycle including analyzing business drivers, defining the requirements baseline, identifying functional specifications, and verifying requirements. This position will be a member of the Business System Engineering team, responsible for the functional design of the DigitalGlobe Ground System, which encompasses order management, production, delivery sub-systems, as well as web interfaces. The ideal candidate will posses the following skills:

Substantial experience analyzing business systems and processes, including methodologies for identifying functional gaps and prioritizing enhancements initiatives.
*
Strong ability to document and streamline complex business processes.
*
Solid background with design and implementation of business systems, for example implementing a large workflow and / or order fulfillment system.
*
Strong ability to elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, storyboards, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, event lists, business analysis, competitive product analysis, task and workflow analysis and/or viewpoints.
*
Strong writing skills for generation of Concept of Operations, Interface Control and System Requirements documents.
*
Familiarity with requirements management packages.

Key responsibilities for this position:

* Employ program management concepts, practices, and procedures to initiate, plan, execute, control, and close systems, software and/or engineering projects.
* Organize and drive highly complex activities for the development, implementation, and maintenance of technical projects involving satellite systems, remote sensing, imagery and content processing, service oriented architectures, web enabled ecommerce and delivery.
* Set deadlines, identify, obtain and track resource commitments and dependencies, drive issues and actions, monitor and mitigate risk, proactively manage and control project progress.
