RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Summary
The global database engineering group is responsible for engineering and support of the database management systems for Visa Inc. This includes planning, design, evaluation, installation, deployment, and maintenance of database management systems.
Job Scope
This role is a recognized expert within Visa responsible for contributing to the development of functional strategy. This is an individual contributor role responsible for solving unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.
Job Function
Establish database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan and security policy.
Job Responsibilities
Adapt to business requirements, model data, and develop database specifications, table and element attributes.
Provide third level technical support to client institutions and internal technical teams to resolve database issues and to support the implementation of new database solutions.
Oversee production implementations of database including backup and recovery strategy, capacity planning, data migration process, and production monitoring automation.
Direct installations and upgrades to DBMS, products and tools.
Lead the evaluation, selection and implementation of DBA tools to improve the effectiveness of tasks such as performance monitoring and tuning, recovery, and database change management processing.
Propose and implement enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system.
Provide highest level of technical consultancy to design most efficient and cost effective technical solution.
Develop and position solutions and build plans to effectively gain buy-in from all participants.
Provide recommendations to management team to increase effectiveness of organization and technology solutions.
Individuals at this level are expected to perform with little formal supervision, and be able to communicate effectively with several levels of the organization, from junior staff to senior management.
REQUIREMENTS
Required:
Extensive (8 or more years) DBA experience, generally with two or more of the following DBMS platforms: DB2, Informix, Sybase, SQL Server, Oracle.
Strong knowledge and extensive experience with DB2 UDB on AIX/Solaris is mandatory.
Experience with Large Scale DB2 UDB Databases and DB2 DPF (Data Partition) is required.
Candidates must be competent with converting logical data models into high performance physical designs.
Advanced knowledge of operating systems, scripting languages, data modeling and business intelligence tools.
Advanced process orientation and exhibited planning, organizational and problem solving skills.
Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills along with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills.
Demonstrated ability to solve complex systems and database environment issues.
Ability to understand systems from all levels, from the "big picture" enterprise-level view to the low level technical view.
Ability to write technical design and build documentations for all aspects of a technical infrastructure.
Ability to represent technical and business issues and solutions to multiple levels internally and externally to support strategic organizational plans.
Demonstrate ability to work in a complex organization to determine business and customer needs, providing the best solution to meet those needs.
Preferred:
Experience with data dictionary/repository tools and ERwin data modeling software.
Experience with OLAP tools.
ITIL Certification
BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related fields
