SUMMARY:
Responsibilities include system administration of UNIX hardware and operating systems and the integration and connectivity of UNIX platforms into the tw telecom network in support of the National Operations Center (NOC). Will also support user requests for service, maintain accurate documentation, ensure adequate resource capacity, system performance and data integrity. Qualifications include 3+ years experience with UNIX systems administration primarily with Sun hardware/Solaris operating systems, Hewlett-Packard hardware/HPUX, Redhat operating systems and Netapp hardware/OnTap. This position has minimal supervision. Candidate must be self-motivated, team oriented, and able to prioritize multiple job requests. Rotational on call required. Dress code is business casual.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Maintain UNIX/Linux operating systems on Sun, Hewlett-Packard and Netapp platforms.
•Provide connectivity to UNIX servers on personal computers using Hummingbird Exceed.
•Install and maintain various third party software as required.
•Respond to user requests for service.
•Create and maintain shell scripts (Korn, Bourne, C)
•Ensure that operating system backups are successfully completed on a daily basis.
•Install UNIX, SYBASE, Oracle, Informix and third party vendor software upgrades.
•Assist clients in resolving UNIX operating system problems.
•Provide training to level I and II system administrators in all of the above functions.
•Will be responsible for the timely completion of assigned project work.
•Provide timely application of OS level patches and third party software upgrades.
•Sufficient knowledge of TWTC applications to isolate and resolve simple application problems.
•Other UNIX tasks as needed.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:
•Expert knowledge (3+ years experience) of Sun and/or Hewlett-Packard hardware.
•Expert knowledge (3+ years experience) in UNIX system administration.
•Expert knowledge (3+ years experience) of UNIX operating systems, particularly HP-UX and Sun Solaris using LDAP.
•Working knowledge (1+ years experience) of Relational Database Management Systems.
•Working knowledge (1+ years experience) of networking equipment such as routers, multiplexors, network hubs, etc.
•Working knowledge (1+ years experience) of shell scripting (Korn, Bourne, C)
•Customer focused
•Excellent written and spoken communication skills
•Previous experience with data warehousing a plus.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
•SAN or NAS storage experience is required.
•Solaris and Red Hat OS experience is required.
•Working knowledge of Sun Directory Services/LDAP is required.
•Must available for rotational on-call duty.
