You'll be responsible for providing integration and
debuggingexpertise for deployments of interactive television and
addressable advertising(ETV/EBIF, SCTE 130) and other technologies
supporting new advertising andinteractive products in the cable
industry. A priority is documentation of best practicesin support of
deployment, with focus on the identification and development oftools.
Interface with CableLabs and MSO engineers to identify and resolve field
deployment issues intime-pressured, highly visible environments. Ability
to creativelydraw on resources from within CableLabs, its member
companies and the vendorcommunity to achieve these goals and be
responsible for driving technicaldecisions, escalating unresolved issues
when required. You will be responsible for support ofinteroperability
testing based on cable industry standards such as SCTE 130,and CableLabs
specifications such as ETV and SaFI This includes coordinating and
runningquarterly CableLabs interoperability events.
RESPONSIBILITIES
•Lead multi-vendor interoperability events including: working with
MSOs andother partners to identify goals and objectives of the interop;
identify anddocument use cases and develop RFI documentation; organize
and communicateregularly with vendors; interface with the CableLabs
Systems Evaluation groupto conduct the week-long interop event; prepare
followup reports and pressreleases.
•Work with MSO engineers to optimize and successfully deploy
advertising andinteractive systems in major metropolitan areas.
•Identify and document best practices in support of advertising and
interactivedeployments, including operational details, application
guidelines, andinteroperability issues.
•Identify areas to support test and monitoring in support of
advertising andinteractive deployments. Research existing tools and
identify areas for needsfor new tool developments. Contribute to the
requirements and possibledevelopment of new tools to support test and
monitoring.
•Provide documentation and training to field and operation engineers
on the useof test tools to monitor and debug advertising and interactive
deployments.
•Operate as the face of CableLabs when communicating with MSO
operationalmanagement while in the field.
• Evaluate new specifications, extensions and industrystandards to
specify, design and create or contract for the implementation ofnew lab
test tools to be used in the verification of equipment built to
thespecifications.
REQUIREMENTS
§ Demonstratedexperience with large systems integration
efforts required.
§ Provenability to debug large complex communications systems
required.
§ Excellentorganizational, planning, and technical writing
skills required.
§ Softwaredevelopment skills; demonstrated proficiency in Java
and embedded java (J2SEand J2ME) development for real-time systems under
Linux or similar OSdesirable.
§ In-depthknowledge of interactive cable system architectures,
standards, andspecifications including SCTE 130, ETV, return path
architectures (DSG, DAVIC).
§ Experiencewith data networks, video systems, and RF networks
highly desirable.
§ BSor MS degree in electrical engineering or computer
science.
§ Excellentinterpersonal communications skills required.
Willing to travel.
