Senior Hosting Operations Engineer
This is an operational position at an Identity Management software start-up
requiring a technical background in web application / SaaS architecture,
system administration, and network design. This position provides the
opportunity to participate in multiple areas of the company both internally
and externally. Internally, this job covers architecture and support of a
Software as a Service (SaaS) company that operates mission critical Identity
Management infrastructure on our customers¹ behalf as well as supporting the
IT systems that Symplified employees use on a day to day basis. Externally,
this job covers pre-sales, implementation, and customer support of software
services delivered as well as management and coordination of operational
technology partners.
This is a newly-created full time permanent position we are looking to fill.
Responsibilities
* Design and support a redundant, secure, virtualized SaaS web application
architecture with an eye for operational efficiency
* Design and maintain Symplified network and server infrastructure office,
co-location, and WAN
* Design and maintain monitoring infrastructure
* Be on call 24/7 for second-tier support
* Act as point of contact to hosting provider partner
* Design and support virtualized development network and environment at
corporate office
* Ensure entire technology infrastructure is reliable and secure
* Conduct capacity planning
* Create and execute backup and recovery plans
* Support primarily Mac desktop environment with Linux and MS servers
* Implement ITIL practices into operational procedures
* Provide remote and on-site implementation and consulting services for the
products/services that Symplified represents
* Provide pre-sales support of active systems and vendors, working directly
with Symplified sales staff and customers
* Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
* Production support
- 5-10 years of employment with significant responsibilities in highly
available, redundant, medium to large scale web applications.
- Experience maintaining a SaaS deployment architecture preferred.
- Proven track record in maintaining production environments with 24x7
availability
- In-depth understanding of networking and web application delivery
* Network design, maintenance, and security
- Working knowledge of networking, network design, I/P routing and
configurations
- Experience with DHCP, DNS, Proxy, LDAP, and network protocols
- Solid experience with network security monitoring and management
- Extensive knowledge of security products such as Authentication,
Firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems, VPNs and a variety of
other related security technologies
- CISSP, CCNA/CCNP certification a plus
* System administration skills
- Expert Linux (Red Hat / CentOS), OSX and Windows administration skills
- Strong working knowledge of server virtualization technologies
- Understanding of remote access technology
- Hands on experience with mySQL and SQL Server a plus
* Customer Service
- Understands that customers are what drive a company and knows how to
provide excellent service
- Knowledge and experience in Identity Management preferred
- Represents company well at customer site and over the phone
* Work ability / organization skills
- Enjoys start-up atmosphere and is able to put in the time necessary to
make the company a success
- Ability to work with minimal supervision to accomplish assigned tasks and
take own initiative to coordinate and complete tasks
- Can coordinate work among multiple technology partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- May be required to travel to customer sites or Symplified collocation
