ServiceMagic - Telephony Administrator, Network Analyst, Developer, Sr. Oracle DBA

ServiceMagic is looking for a bright, energetic and creative individual with a passion for technology to join our technical operations team to manage/support our telephony systems. We're looking for someone with a solid base of knowledge about how VoIP telephony works in an open-source, mid-size enterprise.

It's critical for us to find someone who has an insatiable interest in where voice communication is headed. More important than technical depth in any single technology, we want someone with a passion for service, a tinkerer's ability to sniff out and solve problems, and the personality to interact successfully with staff, management, vendors and teammates.

We have a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, so you must have a history of rapidly identifying problems, anticipating solutions and independently acting to manage the problems to successful conclusion. We're looking for someone who is curious, organized, self managed and very detail oriented.

Primary responsibilities:

Manage corporate telephony support to our corporate campus and one out of state contact center.
Understand the business' needs and priorities and drive technology and support systems over time to meet those needs.
Manage development of call routing strategies to optimize delivery of calls utilizing multiple vendors.
Manage TDM, VoIP, VoIP over WAN, SIP and IVR systems and service to deliver 99.9+% uptime.
Perform help desk role supporting call center telephony and proactively monitoring systems with rotating 24x7 "manager on-call" responsibilities for resolving escalated telecommunications production issues.
Manage telecom moves-adds-changes and deploy new hardware and software.
Conduct efficiency analysis to improve service delivery.
Help troubleshoot high profile, revenue impacting, critical system and software failures.

Technical Qualifications:

Technical proficiency in systems implementation and support, application installation and support, and systems architecture.
Ability to conceptualize, communicate, plan and execute strategies involving advanced call routing and call control to support the business.
Experience in high volume systems, applications, and telecommunications support a plus
Understands carrier-based advanced features, OSI layers, voice/data networking concepts, computer telephony integration (CTI), VoIP, SIP, and various types of call routing.
Experience with open-source platforms for call routing and control (Asterisk, FreeSwitch, FreePBX, etc.), Linux and Windows Server.

Our Systems and Network Analyst is responsible for:

Relentless pursuit of uptime for our production network and server and storage infrastructure
Management and support of our production network, server and storage infrastructure
Participating in Tier 2 on-all rotation and responding to Tier 2 escalations
Maintaining Operating System and infrastructure application and hardware upgrades
Assisting all technical and business teams in design, implementation and maintenance of their projects
Maintaining documentation and testing our redundancy and disaster recovery procedures
Analyzing and monitoring our infrastructure to discover opportunities to improve reliability, resiliency or performance
Recommending and implementing additions or changes to our infrastructure to improve reliability, resiliency or performance

Required Experience:

To be successful, you'll need to have:

Good judgment and trouble-shooting skills when dealing with production-impacting changes and problems
Demonstrable, deep experience with current Cisco networking products in a 7x24 production environment
Familiarity with application load balancers
Strong experience with some Linux distro in a production environment. Solaris experience a big plus
Strong experience with Xen or VMWare hosts and Linux guests
Experience managing storage infrastructure, either direct-attached or in a SAN
Some experience managing systems supporting Oracle databases
Application familiarity and configuration experience with common open-source infrastructure found in modern web companies, such as: Apache, Tomcat, Sendmail, BIND, etc.
Disciplined approach to maintenance and upgrades - you need to be able to accurately document and execute any and all proposed changes
Good written and verbal communication, particularly of technical subjects
Good listening skills
Awareness of when you're in over your head and need to call in the calvary
Ownership of both the good and bad things you do
The ability to follow written and verbal directions and procedures to the letter

Our Senior DBA is responsible for:

Designing and executing Oracle RDBMS deployments.
Managing our Oracle GoldenGate and standby server deployments.
Reviewing existing Oracle DBMS deployments for potential improvements in availability and resiliency.
Actively monitoring existing Oracle databases to identify SQL consuming large amounts of resource and give development teams guidance and oversight in remediating issues
Actively participating with development teams to tune poor performing SQL
Providing support for system troubleshooting of developed/installed/tested applications
Providing Production Operations Support, which includes assisting in 24x7 support with rotating on-call schedule
Having strong UNIX scripting skills, both Solaris and Linux
Having strong experience in holistic DBMS/UNIX performance monitoring, measurement, reporting and tuning
Having expertise with SQL and PL/SQL, particularly as it relates to tuning
Excellent troubleshooting/problem solving and communication skills

To be successful, you'll need to have:

At least 5 years professional experience as an Oracle DBA
The ability to spin-up an Oracle instance from scratch
Demonstrable experience patching production Oracle database system
Demonstrable experience performing as the lead on upgrading a production Oracle system from one major revision to another
Strong UNIX scripting skills, both Solaris and Linux
Strong experience in holistic DBMS/UNIX performance monitoring, measurement, reporting and tuning
Expertise with SQL and PL/SQL, particularly as it relates to tuning
Excellent troubleshooting/problem solving and communication skills
