The individual will have responsibility for performing primarily UNIX
systems administration functions for Solaris and Linux web
environments and applications.
Responsibilities
„X Web Systems Administration ¡V 50%
o Install, configure, test and maintain Linux and Solaris web
servers and application servers.
o Work with Windows system administrators to install,
configure, test and maintain Windows-based web servers and
application servers.
o Troubleshoot system resources and performance bottlenecks for
web applications.
o Troubleshoot web sites and applications at the software
infrastructure level
o Provide technical assistance, systems analysis and support to
assigned staff in the development, testing and implementation of
applications that are presented and used via web-based technologies
and applications.
o Assist in the planning and future development of web
architectural requirements, such as server configuration and capacity
management for development and production servers.
„X UNIX System Administration - 35%
o Perform basic UNIX SA duties:
„X Install and maintain UNIX operating systems and applications
„X User-ID administration
„X Backups and restores
„X Apply patches and maintain prudent cyber security
„X Troubleshoot system and network problems
„X Performance monitoring
o Be a part of an on call rotation for after-hours support
„X Technical Consulting ¡V 5%
o Consult with CLIENT staff to understand their IT requirements
and recommend solutions
o Partner with IS staff to evaluate new technologies
o Work with staff, contractors and vendors to resolve complex
system and network integration issues
„X Project Management ¡V 5%
o Participate in a change management process to plan and manage
the installation of new systems, upgrades to existing systems and
enhancements to the IT infrastructure
„X Documentation ¡V 5%
o Perform timely documentation for all infrastructure supported
systems, networks and applications software
Requirements
„X 10 years experience (minimum) in UNIX system administration
„X Extremely strong Solaris (8,9,10) and Linux (RedHat/CentOS,
Debian/Ubuntu) skills including architecture, implementation,
monitoring and troubleshooting
„X Expert knowledge and understanding of UNIX environment,
including standard daemons, protocols and applications (DNS, DHCP,
SMTP, NFS, Apache, FTP, sendmail etc.)
„X Expert knowledge with web servers (Apache 1.3/2.x and IIS 6)
on multiple operating systems including Solaris, Linux and Windows
Server
„X Strong knowledge of relational database design, structure,
operating principles and programming
„X Strong knowledge and experience in UNIX scripting (Bourne/C
shell, bash, perl, sed/awk, etc.), automation and architecture
„X Knowledge of IP networking concepts
„X Ability to plan, document, install and effectively implement
complex server software across heterogeneous server and networking
environments
„X Must be U.S. Citizen

„X Experience with Windows Server 2003/2008
„X Experience with ColdFusion, .Net, Apache/Tomcat, IIS
„X Experience with MS-SQL, Postgres, MySQL
„X Cyber security expertise
„X Ability to multitask, balance workloads, and take direction
from multiple managers
