Systems and Network Engineer
We are looking for an experienced jack of all trades who can leverage existing skills to comfortably solve issues that don't directly match past experience. The ideal candidate loves to learn and will take advantage of the professional development opportunities that EDUCAUSE provides through formal training as well as informal self-study. Satisfaction from helping end-users is critical. This role encompasses many disparate responsibilities including administering services at the datacenter, traveling to support conferences, and providing day-to-day end-user support so thriving on varied environments is key.

Responsibilities:
-Take a lead role in network management, maintenance, and monitoring for local office and colocation facility
-Support and maintain association applications including iMIS association management software, Dynamics, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Windows 2003/2008 server
-Provide general systems, network, and technical support for both local and distributed staff
-Travel to 3-5 EDUCAUSE events/conferences per year to support the onsite network, speakers, and attendees
-Shared after-hours on-call duty
-Other duties as assigned

Required Experience/Skills:
-Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems by applying potentially unrelated experiences
-Ability to recommend appropriate solutions for EDUCAUSE by defining functional needs, identifying and evaluating candidate products, and producing recommendations
-Strong network expertise including:
-Configuration and support of Active Directory, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Firewalls, VPN
-Strong understanding of OSI Model
-Windows 2003/2008 Server experience and MS XP or Windows 7 experience
-Desktop, server, and appliance hardware support experience (RAID, firmware management, etc.)
-Data backup management experience (ideally Symantec Backup Exec)
-Anti-virus management experience
-Ability to prioritize and demonstrate flexibility in completing tasks
-Ability to manage time and work both independently and as a member of a team
-Excellent attention to detail
-Good writing and documentation skills
-Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
-Ability to lift 50 pounds

Preferred Experience:
- MS SQL Server 2005 experience including configuration and maintenance (backups, application support, etc.), monitoring, and writing TSQL queries
-MySQL support and management experience
-VMware or other virtualization experience
-Storage (iSCSI SAN ideal) management and maintenance experience
-Exchange 2003/2010 experience
-Experience supporting iMIS association database or other CRM tool
-JUNOS and General Juniper experience
-Network Security
-RADIUS experience
-Programming/scripting experience
-Non-profit/Higher Education experience a big plus
