ROLE PURPOSE:
The Systems Consultant title at Janus are equivalent to Programmer
Analyst / Developer. The person would be responsible for the
automation of existing manual processes for integrating data into the
external Janus websites. The person MUST learn and perform the manual
process before automation begins. Automation will occur in parallel to
manual activities. The ideal candidate provides technical subject
matter
expertise and data knowledge in the support and enhancement of existing
and development of new applications as well as is responsible for
analyzing system requirements, coordinating systems analysis,
researching and evaluating vendor solutions and recommending new and/or
alternative system approaches
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Automation of existing manual processes for integrating data into the
external Janus websites.
- Must learn and perform the manual process before automation begins.
Automation will occur in parallel to manual activities.
- Responsible for the data integrity of information being displayed in
externally facing applications and reports and ensures proper systems
operation.
- Responsible for both monthly processing as well as understanding how
the data should change as a result of new fund and product changes.
- Must participate in all fund and product changes (adds, changes,
deletes, merges, etc.) to understand how these change affect the data,
the data feeds, and how the site needs to change to represent this
information.
- Involved in all change requests to the sites that require data to be
presented in new ways or with information that was not previously
presented. Determines how the data, data feeds, and site representation
of the data will be affected.
- Will expand responsibilities to include other technologies within the
Janus suite of websites. Expect to eventually assist with new
development and support of the existing and new websites.
- Work with business users to gather requirements, write functional and
technical specifications. Conduct requirements analysis and perform
systems analysis.
- Provide new code and/or maintenance and enhancements of existing
code,
primarily using Java.
- Develop conceptual and technical designs.
- Estimate effort to complete tasks.
- Identify and resolve or escalate issues.
- Conduct testing including all phases; systems, integration and
performance and ensuring traceability.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
* Strong, general web technologist
* Strong working knowledge of:
o Java
o Java Script Pages (JSP)
o Relational Database
* Very detail oriented.
* Ability and desire to build strong relationships.
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills and strong
interpersonal skills required to interact with all levels of
management,
staff as well as outside vendors, contractors, and consultants.
* Proven ability to analyze and balance facts, priorities, resources,
constraints and alternatives to make sound decisions and
recommendations.
* Proven ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and
projects in a demanding environment.
* Assignments involve analysis and design, as well as project
leadership, on applications with moderate degree of complexity.
* Experience with any of the following would be a plus: BizTalk, ETL
(Informatica preferred), Job Scheduling (Autosys preferred), Perl, Sun
Application server, Web Tracking tool (WebTrends preferred), Front End
Web Development, Microsoft SharePoint or Modeling Language (such as
UML).
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
* Five years of experience using systems development life cycle
methodologies.
* Five years of system analysis, design and programming experience
Java,
Java Script Pages (JSP) and Relational Database.
* Previous experience in a financial, Mutual Fund or Securities
environment preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
* BS or higher degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or
related technology field required.
