Starz Entertainment - Offline Captioner

Primary Responsibility:

Oversee technical evaluation of on-air product for all channels, including managing rejected title status and solutions with licensors and duplication facilities. Manage delivery of all Starz Entertainment, LLC (STE) Original Productions and Co-Productions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Create Caption files for select STE programming, multi-task (hear audio, voice what was heard, type and proof-read simultaneously, creating caption files via transcription, and reformatting of Word, Text and PDF documents.

· Input text files into captioning software and sync captions to pre-recorded programs, avoiding graphics, logos and subtitles.

· Time and place captions on screen to appear appropriately with audio and video changes within program, taking scene changes into consideration.

· Evaluate new captions for quality, including accurate placement, grammar, identification of sound cues and effects.

· Encode captioning onto program, using captioning software and Sony Digital Betacam tape decks.

· Review newly captioned program for accuracy and forward to Quality Control for evaluation.

· Reformat existing captioning files to alternate versions.

· Maintain all program scripts.

· Research Internet and other sources for correct spellings, terms, and information to ensure accuracy when creating closed captioning.

· Must be able to work independently, be able to prioritize, be dependable, flexible and possess a team attitude and willingness to adapt to last-minute changes and tight deadlines.


Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

· Associate’s Degree in English, Journalism, or related field preferred; Skilled in sustained concentration on audio tracks of media, with the ability to decipher subtle sound cues from recorded programs; training in transcription, captioning and subtitles and/or training; or equivalent education and experience required.

· Knowledge of Captioning Software desirable, but will train qualified candidate with strong computer and typing skills.

· Previous editing and/or proofreading experience preferred.

· Ability to write, speak and comprehend Spanish is preferred.

· Media recording and captioning equipment and applications such as text files, scanning equipment and voice recognition software experience.

· Strong written and grammatical skills required.

· Must be able to research on the internet.

· Must have understanding or previous experience with Digi Beta decks.

· Incumbent must have problem solving skills, attention to detail and can manage time and projects, work independently and work under pressure.
