Job description:Systems Engineer, Senior
Intrado is currently searching for a Sr. Systems Engineer for our Longmont office.
Identifies and specifies the system standards for the organization**s product offerings and provides direction during product development.
Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):
** Provides extensive technical project leadership
** Conducts reviews on technical system specifications.
** Participates in technical reviews including code reviews, design analysis, and software requirements feasibility
** Expected to work on multiple projects concurrently as well as transition to other projects easily based on skill set and background knowledge of projects.
** Continually stays abreast of technology, is a member of external groups representing Intrado.
** Recognizes deficiencies in standardization between internally developed products, recommends alternatives and coordinates standardization between internally developed products
** Implements procedural and system enhancements designed to streamline and improve the overall efficiency of processes
** Monitors system effectiveness, ongoing fitness for use, evolving technology and trends and proactive changes for consideration as appropriate
** Identifies opportunities for standardizations between internally developed products.
** Identifies and documents operations methods and procedures\
** Can identify and deal with risks far into the future or that have a broad scope beyond their immediate responsibilities.
** Interprets and understands database schemas.
** Identifies, evaluates and recommends all required technology and/or third-party components.
** Creates System Architecture Specifications.
** Creates Interface Specifications.
** Analyzes application or system quality attributes such as performance, scalability, security, and extensibility and recommends improvements and/or design changes.
** Trouble shoots system level interactions and issues.
** Provides technical support when escalated by operations or other internal groups.
** Interfaces directly with external customers to resolve problems.
** Designs and plans functional tests for thresholds and utilization capacity.
** Plans installations that affect other systems.
** Acquires and maintains a thorough knowledge of the functionality of Intrado products.
** Creates complete system specifications including hardware component and external interfaces.
** Create Functional Specifications.
** Assesses technical feasibility against business requirements.
** Interfaces with marketing and customers to determine business and end-user requirements.
** Build and leads cross functional teams to resolve significant software problems.
** Acts as a liaison between engineering staff inside and outside of the organization.
** Conducts technology presentations including software demonstrations and training sessions.
** Complies with the letter and spirit of the Intrado Information Security Policy.
** Understands and follows the corporate product development lifecycle and software development lifecycle processes.
Technical Knowledge Requirements
** Minimum 3 years database administration/engineering in a DEVELOPMENT/SQA environment. This should not be a production DBA with exposure to Oracle RAC, backup and recovery.
** Recent working experience in an iterative environment such as Scrum, XP, etc.
** Linux/Solaris OS platform. Shell scripting.
** Good understanding of Modeling concepts, both object and relational ones
** Good communication skills
** A driver type
** Basic understanding of metadata and its effects on rules-oriented systems.
** Exposure to telecom environment.
Education & Experience
** Bachelor**s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field; or equivalent experience and 7+ years experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
** Experience in the entire product lifecycle and comprehension of the impacts of design decisions at different stages
** Experience in system sizing, capacity planning and performance tuning, data replication and backup and disaster recovery design.
** Experience designing highly available, distributed, heterogeneous and scalable systems, relational database design and object/relational database mapping.
** Familiarity with multi-process operating systems, client server architectures and web based applications.
** Knowledge of standard business software (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Experience with Project Management software preferred.
