Manager, Database Administration

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Manager of Database Administration will manage and maintain all
production relational databases. Responsible for the day to day
administration and database operations, security administration, object
administration, space management and database installation. The Manager
of Database Administration will use their knowledge of the business and
associated process and will work with the Infrastructure Engineering
and
Design group to help in the determination of upgrades and the
integration of future technologies.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Determines and manages infrastructure standards regarding database
products and tools.

*Responsible for ensuring adequate system capacity through capacity
planning and trend analysis.

*Responsible for managing the design, procurement, installation, and
administration of databases.

*Responsible for determining and analyzing future system requirements.
*Manages and implements effective programs and strategies to ensure
availability of all databases, production, test and development.
*Continuity planning and delivery for Disaster Recovery.

*Manages relationships with key technology vendors.

*Develops budgets and operates areas of responsibility within budget.

*Prepares and administers the Database Administration for operations,
maintenance, and capital improvement programs/projects.

*Management of subordinate tasks and duties.

*Manage feasibility studies of new products.

*Manage software upgrades, schedules and performs upgrades to
databases.


*Manages access privileges to databases and manages database elements
including the creation, alteration, deletion and copying of schemas,
databases, tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, triggers and
declarative integrity constraints.

*Coordination with operational resources that are in charge of backup
utilities and hardware to plan and test backup and recovery procedures.
Performs database recovery tasks if necessary.

*Works with the development and business groups and the Security
Administrator to determine appropriate access for groups and
individuals
and appropriate privileges within the accessible databases.

*Manage and maintain a comprehensive database software configuration
database/ library of all supporting documentation and initiates
corrective action to ensure all database servers meet or exceed
processing requirements for performance and reliability.

*Conducts software audits of database products for compliance with
established standards, policies, configuration guidelines, and
procedures. Knowledge of relational database management system model
and
administration tools.

*Develop long-term Database strategies for the enterprise environment
to
stay current with technology and provide the required functionality to
the organization.

*Document, coordinate and schedule all appropriate work in the
development of assigned projects/tasks.

*Sets and communicates clear department goals and objectives with
entire
subordinate team holding each Associate accountable to individual
expectations.

*Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates
assignments to Associates.

*Provides guidance and manages the day-to-day development of each
Associate including effective on-boarding and on the job training.

*Participates and completes the performance management and the
individual development planning process annually including a mid year
review.

*Provides ongoing coaching and feedback to associates throughout the
performance management cycle.

*Communicates and documents opportunities for development with specific
examples and action items.

*Establishes and ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and
performance requirements.

*Identifies department's skill gaps and staffing needs. *Responsible
for
the hiring and firing of associates.

*Partner with HR Manager to develop job descriptions for new positions.


*Participates in the screening and interview process as well as the
negotiation and closing of offers.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

*Seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in network
administration and management.

*Five or more years Database administration management in a large
production environment.

*Advanced skills with database administration tasks, i.e., database
security, data access techniques, SQL, and database tuning and
auditing.


*Five or more years working experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL, DB2.
*Knowledge of Oracle clustering, UNIX HACMP.

*Advanced knowledge of UNIX, Microsoft Windows Server operating
systems.


*Ability to solve a wide range of highly complex, multi-disciplinary
problems.

*Ability to compose major reports, policy and procedure manuals,
proposals and presentations.

*Ability to deliver informational speeches, reports and orientations
before audiences and groups that include internal and external
customers.

*Conceptual to proficient knowledge of Server hardware systems.

*Must be able to manage time and projects efficiently.

*Exceptional problem solving skills.

*Production process and procedures orientation.

*Functions effectively in a fast-paced environment and able to manage
multiple priorities simultaneously.

Minimum Experience:

*Seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in network
administration and management.

*Five or more years Database administration management in a large
production environment.

*Advanced skills with database administration tasks, i.e., database
security, data access techniques, SQL, and database tuning and
auditing.


Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
