Travelport - Senior Technical Communicator

Duties & Responsibilities:


-Conduct interviews with subject matter experts, including developers and technical support personnel, to gather facts and content related to technical communication deliverables

-Obtain thorough knowledge of the products, and synthesize information to specific content levels

-Create or maintain documentation in relevant technical communication media, including online help systems, Internet-based content, and hard copy formats. Understand and employ communication development tools for these environments

-Participate with systems development, product marketing, quality assurance, and technical support teams throughout product development process

-Create documentation appropriate to the lay and/or technical target audience

-Employ information design principles of writing, design, and editing to the development of technical content, as appropriate for the specified media

-Identify primary and secondary target audiences to design and implement audience-appropriate documentation

-Create conceptual technical structures for managing the flow and storage of information. Employ applicable knowledge management principles and technologies

-Develop prototype models and technical communication products, applying principles related to user cognition, human factors, usability, and interface design



Skills and Experience:


-Five to ten years technical communication experience, in a software development environment. A Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communication, or a relevant field is required. A Master's degree in Technical Communication or related discipline is preferred

-Experience documenting APIs is preferred

-Ability to design, develop, and deliver various media of communication, including hard copy, online help, web, and multimedia. An advanced understanding of these communication media and associated design principles, development techniques, and software

-Excellent, professional-quality written, visual, and verbal communications skills, with a proven ability to follow defined protocols of technical communication

-Solid information design experience, and associated graphics skills, as they pertain to technical communication content

-Project management and planning ability

-Proficient information design experiences, and associated graphics skills, as they pertain to technical communication content

-Ability to analyze target audience/customer user characteristics (zone, cognition, comprehension, learning styles, etc.) and develop applicable technical communications to support product use objectives

-Ability to conceptualize and synthesize technical subject matter for disparate technical and non-technical audiences

-Ability to meet deadlines while working under pressure and under changing requirements and timeframes

-Ability to work independently with minimal Management direction.



Advanced proficiency in the following tools and technologies is required. Equivalent experience with similar tools is acceptable:
