DIRECTV - DBA Manager

We are seeking for a talented and motivated database technology focused DBA Manager, who has the ability to work in a fast paced environment. The DBA manager will manage a staff of Database Administrator (DBA) professionals for the DirecTV database environment, that includes Oracle (HP, Linux and AIX platform) and Microsoft SQL Server databases. This individual will work with other IT team leaders to implement the organization’s IT strategy into specific database roadmaps and deliverables, measure the effectiveness of the delivery model, and track progress against plan and operational Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).  Plus have an instruemental involvement of working on the design layout at the database layer of all new application development

The DBA Manager will provide management and implementation of strategic initiatives for the enterprise database services in achieving efficiency and optimization. Successful candidate will have experience in capacity planning and performance management in a large enterprise; working knowledge of production IT Operations; expert level understanding of server, storage, network and data center infrastructure; a good working understanding of management methodology; certification in  ITIL or ITSM Service Management. This position will also be responsible for developing database processes and procedures for overall IT Operations, upgrading and maintaining IT processes, production controls, capacity planning, and system backups and recovery.

Key Objectives
•Operate database services to meet and exceed SLA by planning, executing, tuning and managing proactively
•Provide standardization and consistency across environments
•Establish key performance indicators, metrics, and focus to drive database operation organization
•Assist with design, development and implementation of database architectures and database solutions for new initiatives
•Strong focus on database security, audit compliance and operational efficiency
•Partner with project teams and interact with customers to find solutions for projects and operational issues for existing and proposed databases
•Forward looking on innovative technologies and solutions including cloud-based and other datastores
•Keeps senior management informed by preparing reports on system performance and problems.
•Deliver strong Performance trouble-shooting and tuning for critical production issues
•Support compliance (e.g. PCI, SOX) and disaster recovery activities
•Act as business liaison serving as primary point of contact between application business segments and database administrators  
Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
•8+ years industry experience and 3+ years in relevant managerial role
•An exceptional communicator with his/her team, peers and executive management
•Relevant hands-on technical management experience of DBA support teams and skills
•Knowledge of Oracle RDBMS SQL, PL/SQL, MS SQL Server, DB2 and associated tools.
•Excellent written and oral communication and teaming skills required.
•Demonstrated experience in managing DBAs and database operations
•Ability to work under pressure within tight timelines.
•Previous experience as an operational DBA a plus
•Ability to build relationships and work with a wide variety of internal partners
•Experience with change management and/or process improvement
•Strong project management skills desired.
 Desired Skills and Experience

•Managing large-scale database and platform upgrades, particularly with Oracle RAC and Grid Control, Linux and Windows cluster environment
•Other database technology, i.e. MySql, or other open-source database technology
