As a Storage Software Engineer - Functional/Systems Test in our Enterprise Storage Practice, you will be responsible for testing P4000 storage systems. Responsibilities can include formulation of test plans and test strategies, and contributing to development project requirements. Along with other members of the test team, you will be responsible for setting up the test environment, executing tests, providing test status and detailed test reports, and assisting development engineers in fault isolation and resolution. Additional responsibilities may include testing Microsoft Windows and Unix applications and utilities as well as automating tests in those environments. The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:


A minimum of 8+ years of experience working in a product and/or system testing environment, with an understanding of network storage elements and principles.

Knowledge and hands-on implementation experience with Windows O/S and familiarity with Linux operating systems.

Experience troubleshooting and interfacing with storage systems (iSCSI and/or FC).

Strong understanding of storage technologies such as: RAID, replication, snapshot techniques, and storage area networks.

Hands-on TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting experience.

Familiarity with Disaster Recovery techniques involving recovering various application databases (Oracle, Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint)

Virtualization experience (VMware, Xen, Hyper-V, Virtual Iron)

Experience in at least one of the following: Solaris, Linux, Enterprise Linux, Back up applications.

MCSE, Oracle Certification, or Cisco Certification preferred.

Strong Analytical/Interpersonal Skills, Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Must be self-motivated, customer oriented, resourceful and enthusiastic.

Experience leading a small team of engineers

Bachelors degree in CIS or Engineering preferred.

Product Development and Solutions

Engages with teams across the Storage and Server domain to implement product solutions with Entry storage array and JBOD portfolio. Spans solutions across database applications and appliances; enterprise and mid-range file system solutions, and other embedded solutions to assure reliability, availability, and serviceability as well as performance, feature, and functionality requirements are being met.

Works with the business and program management to align roadmaps and product/firmware releases to support these solutions.

Drives improved integration with greater HP ecosystem (Management frameworks, Data Center Initiatives - power reporting, savings & management...)

Host-based software development for MSA fleet diagnostic utilities (Performance Monitoring, FW Update utilities, Log Mgmt)

Develop greater support for custom scripting solutions (Array SDK)

Pre-sales account engagement: evaluation/ recommendation of customer solutions.

Q&A for technical/solution evaluation

Provision of equipment for evaluation and hands-on engagement

Evaluation and recommendation of configurations and topologies

Qualification plans

Engagement with account teams

White paper and collateral development (power calculator, performance tuning)

Post-sales account engagement / escalations

Direct engagement with Customer, HP Account Team, HP TCE/Services, HP cross-functional teams and OEM partner to resolve issues with the customer

Support triage and root cause activities leading to solutions for the customer

Validate solutions and work through implementation

Support any ongoing customer engagements and partner account activities

Quality Framework

Drives overall quality improvement activities in alignment with Quality Management System and Framework. Establishes, tracks and drives to conclusion issues found across the value chain (suppliers, manufacturing, field installed base, and ongoing quality testing and measurement)

Participates in "Tiger Teams" focused on resolution of highest priority Customer Found Issues

Engages with proactive efforts to improve system operation, uptime, usability and diagnosis of system issues

Partner customer support - beta firmware and product evaluations, gathering of run-time statistics.

Apply Enterprise-class quality metrics. Drive initiatives to achieve the metrics.

Product firmware release - definition, development, qualification and release activities


Minimum of Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science.

Experienced in hardware and software development.

Storage domain experience (FC SAN, iSCSI SAN, SAS SAN, NAS)

Operating System and Hyper-Visor configuration and performance tuning(Windows, RH, SLES, VMware and Hyper-V)

Application configuration and tuning experience (Exchange, SQL Server, Oracle, SAP)

Strong leadership skills.

Proven and demonstrated problem solving skills and techniques.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of internal and external partners against requirements of schedule, cost and quality.

Ability to design, develop and improve processes.

Ability to collaboratively work at the business team level to help drive the overall success of the MSA, Entry Storage, and ISS businesses
