Director, Software Platforms

CableLabs is currently looking for a Director, Software Platforms to
join our team at our facility located in Louisville, CO.
The Director, Software Platforms will be responsible for progressing
existing initiatives and launching of new initiatives within the BNS
department. This individual will focus on the application of software
development tools, service delivery platforms, and protocols & APIs
–
with a focus on web 2.0 technologies - to converged cable services.
This individual will identify, track, and analyze emerging
technologies and their potential uses within the cable industry. This
individual will create and manage relationships with members and
vendors. This individual will be responsible for driving technical
and business decisions, directing staff as assigned and escalating
unresolved within the department.
Functions of the position are to investigate how software development
tools, service delivery platforms, and web 2.0 technologies can be
used to develop an open platform for development of converged
services on a cable network. Also to identify how key interfaces and
APIs can be leveraged as part of a cable platform for common service
development; allowing cable operators to create new and innovative
services by drawing upon and combining data and service platforms
from various parts of the cable infrastructure. Also to focus on
the strategic application of service delivery platforms to cable
services – including video, data, voice, and wireless and then to
lead, manage, and execute software application lab events, focused on
service convergence, new platforms, and new applications. This
individual will write reports and articles for peer-review journals
and trade publications; make presentations at conferences, industry
forums and workshops or otherwise communicate findings by other means
as appropriate.
Qualifications include a bachelor degree in analytical field
(computer science or engineering degree – preferred); strong
experience in business development or product management; experience
with Web technologies – Web 2.0, Web site APIs (e.g., Facebook,
Google), REST, SOAP, XML; experience with software architecture and
software/scripting development (Java, CC++), including web-based
environments such as PHP and Ruby on Rails; experience with
interactive services languages and APIs such as CCXML, Parlay,
VoiceXML a plus; experience with IP communication protocols (SIP,
SDP, XMPP) a plus. Also, experience in large-scale vendor
management, communications, and technical team management and
knowledge and experience in information technology and
telecommunications industries.
