PURPOSE:
Provides systems software support for a simple to moderately complex
computing environment. Designs, installs, tests, maintains,
modifies, and documents system software processes and procedures.
Supports 24x7 operations through a weekly on-call rotation among the
UNIX Services team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Performs installation and upgrade of the operating system
including OS patches, applications software and supporting
operations software.
o Monitors, and diagnoses operating systems problems. Follows
established procedures to resolve problems.
o Monitors and maintains the backup for multiple operating systems.
o Creates and manages user accounts, directories and files on client
server platform through local server configuration.
o Configures resources such as storage, terminals, printers and tape
devices.
o Responsible for documenting all changes to the system environment
and processes.
o Maintains the hardware inventory of all supported equipment.
Assists in developing and maintaining software inventory database of
all supported equipment.
o Configures and maintains the VMWare ESX host and guest servers and
operating systems.
o Monitors and maintains the LDAP environment.
COMPETENCIES:
o Works well independently, and in a team environment
o Good technical and MIS skills
o Good communication skills, verbal and written
o Advanced knowledge in operating system, network and/or storage
administration
o Design, plan and implement projects independently, and in a team
environment
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related
technical field, or equivalent combination of education, training
and experience. Between four (4) to six (6) years of recent UNIX
experience (AIX and Linux).
TRAVEL: Not required for this position.
RELOCATION: Not available for this position at this time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ideal candidate will be skilled in the areas of data modeling,
physical database design, troubleshooting, performance tuning,
monitoring, maintenance, migrations, recovery methodologies and
contingency options. The job will also involve the challenge of
auditing the current environments, capacity planning, and providing
best practices for the future production/development/test
environments, which may include establishing new standards and
procedures.
