ViaSat - Network Security Analyst

Job Responsibilities
You’re experienced, so you already know that there are a broad range of duties and responsibilities for this critical role within the IT Security Team. You will directly contribute to a broad range of areas including: cutting edge security technologies, compliance and auditing, policy and enterprise level architecture, and working with engineering groups and business units across the company.

This position requires a person with excellent critical thinking and analytical skills as well as strong written and verbal communication, the ability to multi-task, deliver to deadlines on a self–driven basis, and the ability to see security from both the technical and business risk perspectives.



Experience/Skills Required
This position requires a minimum of 8 years in Information Security and a minimum of 5 years working within Information Technology. The qualified candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, MIS, or equivalent experience. Recognized industry certification and/or continuing education programs are highly desired.

The successful candidate will also possess the following requirements:

Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with an ability to assimilate, analyze and correlate large amounts of forensic data from various network, operating system, application, and security devices, logs, and alerts.

Expert understanding of application transport and network infrastructure protocols such as HTTP/S, NTP, DHCP, DNS, SSL/TLS, SMTP, CIFS, and LDAP.

Thorough understanding and significant hands-on experience in networking concepts and services such as VPNs, IPSEC, firewalls, NetFlow, 802.1x, etc.

Experience implementing back-end infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, proxy servers, WAN accelerators, and enterprise systems and storage solutions.

Working knowledge of and experience with intrusion detection and prevention (network and host-based) tools, security event and information management (SEIM) tools, and network and system forensics tools.

Hands on experience using packet analyzers and studying network traffic flows between multiple hosts spanning firewalls in different geographical locations.

Practical experience in deployment and management of applied IT security technologies and tools such as two-factor authentication, enterprise PKI, email encryption, data loss prevention (DLP) technologies, network access control, centralized endpoint protection, etc.

Working knowledge of current penetration testing and vulnerability assessment tools and techniques for hosts, applications, web applications, and network devices.

Working directly with internal IT and Security staff to establish and enforce IT security best practices, protection objectives, process improvements, and effective IT security controls.

Working with internal and external audit to ensure compliance to appropriate regulations and data protection directives.

Experience with Department of Defense security architectures and policies.
