ViaSat - Application Support Engineer

Job Responsibilities


Responsible for the support of mission critical back office applications whose main focus is Problem Management and proactive application monitoring.

Help resolve the root cause of errors and to find permanent solutions.

Help create application monitoring solutions to ensure that the applications are running well and tuned for performance

Troubleshoot technical problems, which may require assessing code and developing as necessary in order to analyze and resolve problems.

Develop expert understanding of technical and business process flow for web applications and provide recommendations for improvement.

Investigate and resolve complex application issues and their underlying systems.

Provide central communications during incidents and facilitate resolution efforts with IT, product development teams or others as appropriate.

Complete post-resolution analysis and reporting for high severity incidents.

Ensure that clients receive efficient and timely responses, updates, and resolutions of issues

Assist in the development of documentation related to Customer Support team procedures

Actively seeks to empower NOC personnel to perform routine application systems support through the development of comprehensive ‘Method and Procedure’ Documents

Participate with on-call duties which may include carrying a pager and providing 24x7 support when necessary

Adhere to company policies and standards

Perform other related duties as required and assigned.




Experience/Skills Required


5+ years experience on Java based enterprise critical business applications as an IT system administrator, system engineer, application developer or system analyst is required.

Experience in an Application Support role highly preferred.

Knowledge of some server side Unix scripting preferred (e.g. Perl, Python, shell scripting).

Experience with SQL and Oracle databases preferred.

Knowledge of Oracle 11g SOA application stack preferred.

Industry experience with Billing and ISP Provisioning systems preferred.

Familiarity with enterprise application monitoring systems preferred.

Ability to develop plug-ins for monitoring systems.

Basic competency working in a n-tier software environment.

Requires professional verbal communication skills, written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, and teamwork ability

Ability to work a flexible schedule and be available to work on holidays, when necessary.

Maintains composure in sustained pressure situations with the ability to think quickly.
