Level 3 Communications is currently looking for a Content Services Network Operations technician to join the team maintaining and growing the Level 3 Content Delivery Network Offering and Vyvx services. Level 3's industry leading content delivery services include services for storage, caching, streaming and the Vyvx® broadcast network to create Level 3's end-to-end content distribution solution for our customers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; operation, maintenance and monitoring of Media Operations hardware and related control software providing broadcast quality content distribution services. Provide broadcast quality support as a key contributor to content delivery in a 24x7 network centric operational team. Maintain a Tier II response to fault escalations from network alarms and first level support technicians through resolution, repair or escalation to Tier III. Limited travel with day-to-day tasks will taking place at our primary Media Operations Center in Tulsa Oklahoma or Level 3's World Headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado.
Requirements include:
- 1-3 years (2 years in ISP a plus)
- Experience in performing as a technician or operations support team member in the content distribution space with a focus on network support activities
- Ability to manage technical workload and engage senior technicians and management as appropriate
- Ability to maintain a solid working relationships including collaborative technical activities with peers and on the job training for junior technicians
- Excellent writing and verbal communication abilities required
- Experience with the following systems beneficial: Linux, Solaris and Microsoft Windows®
- General knowledge in multi-technology operations concepts as related to content delivery services
- Basic knowledge of Internet protocols and services a plus; HTTP, RTMP, RTSP and DNS
- Able to use and interpret Video/Audio measurement tools (Waveform monitors, Vectorscopes, Audio Analyzers, ASI Analyzers)
- Basic knowledge of lower layer technologies a plus including; IP, Ethernet, SONET/SDH
- Must be willing to work on call via pager and/or cell phone, including weekends or holidays to support the operations staff
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to work extra hours as needed
- This position will require working either swing and/or 3rd shift(mids).
Minimum Level of Education: BS or Equivalent work experience
Fields of Study: Engineering or Computer Science
Additional Specialized Coursework: CBNT, CBNE, Broadcast Engineering or Electrical Engineering

Broomfield, CO - Test Engineer - Level 3

Test Engineer
Level 3 is searching for an experienced test engineer to join the Edge Test team. This team is responsible for performing all testing and certification of equipment, method of procedures, architectures, & engineering designs and has all Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 responsibility for the Edge Network. The ideal candidate for this role should be a methodical thinker with a detailed understanding of the relevant technology standards and the operation of large scale data networks.
This position will involve a substantial amount of time in a lab environment and could include extended hours as required for production support activities. This position may entail a small amount of travel, but most day-to-day tasks will take place at the Global Headquarters in Broomfield, CO.
Responsibilities:
- The primary responsibility for a Data Test Engineer is to test and certify all equipment and software used in Level 3's Layer 2 and Layer 3 network, both Production and Management/Telemetry sub-networks.
- Develop test cases based on Engineering and Architecture requirements. Test subjects will include new hardware platforms, new protocols, software regression testing, Operational MOPs, new features, and relevant IT software that interacts with the network.
- Execute, document, and communicate test results to the appropriate stakeholders in Architecture and Engineering.
- Provide Production support to internal groups as needed to resolve Deployment, Service Activation, or Service Management issues.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency of the work environment and process in order to continuously improve the quality of the team's output.
Desired qualifications include:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the telecom sector, primarily in a technical role
- Good communication skills, capable of providing concise technical assessments and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Must possess a high level of integrity and accountability
- Strong sense of responsibility and pride in the work of themselves and of the team
- Knowledge of Level 3 systems, processes, and products is desireable
Technical Requirements:
- Excellent understanding of IP routing protocols including BGP, OSPF and ISIS.
- Excellent understanding of MPLS, LDP and RSVP.
- Excellent understanding of Ethernet and related restoration, OAM, and signlaing protocols.
- Good understanding of QoS.
- Experience in service offerings such as l2vpn, l3vpn and vpls.
- Experience with other Layer 2 and Layer 3 equipment providers.
- Working knowledge of Juniper routers including the m-series and T-series.
- Working knowledge of Cisco routers and switches including the 6500/7600 platform.
- Working knowledge of Alcatel-Lucent switches and routers including the 7750 and OmniSwitch product lines.
- Basic understanding of the internal design and component make-up of switches and routers.
Additional desirable skill sets include:
- Programming in one or more of Perl, Expect or C languages
- Network security experience
- Testing Automation framework and scripting
- Network monitoring systems experience
- Working knowledge of other layer2/3 equipment vendors
- Good understanding of layer 1 technologies and protocols as they relate to the performance of Layer 2 and Layer 3 network elements
