Level 3 - User Experience Designer

Summary
Level (3) has an immediate opening for a User Experience Designer to participate in creating an engaging experience for Level 3’s customer portal and other customer-facing online and mobile tools.
The designer will help define the user experience for the next generation of reporting, troubleshooting, online purchasing and service management for Level 3’s customers to radically simplify and improve how they do business with Level 3.
As a member of the User Experience team, the designer will conduct research with customers, envision incredible user experiences, lead productive, creative sessions amongst internal/external stakeholders, and create detailed user interface designs.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a work environment that requires strong problem solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for technical complexity, team collaboration and open communication. The candidate will also have extensive experience in a fast-paced and innovative development environment. A thorough understanding of contemporary user-centered design methodologies is a must.

Key Responsibilities
• Translate complex product options, constraints, and data models to intuitive user interfaces.
• Create wireframes, mock-ups, storyboards, prototypes or similar to communicate design requirements
• Design multi-dimensional, interactive presentations of rich data sets.
• Facilitate dialog around end-user requirements and business requirements to ensure usability and a user centered product design philosophy
• Conduct research to build an in-depth understanding of different types of customers and their unique user needs.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary teams to drive innovative user-centric solutions within platform constraints & technical limitations
• Lead usability testing and heuristic evaluation of new and existing designs.
• Provide graphic design of layout, icons, and data presentation for usability, clarity, and elegance based on strong interaction design & visual design principles
• Develop interaction models and conceptual frameworks of experience
• Create customer-facing documentation and communications.
• Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
• 3 or more years experience directly related to user experience design for software, web applications which leverage emergent technologies, consumer electronics and/or mobile devices.
• Extensive knowledge of user centered design methodologies/tools including user profiles, user scenarios, personas, navigation flow charts, data models, storyboards, wireframes, mockups, and user interface specifications.
• Experience conducting user-centered research including surveys, focus groups, structured interviews, usability testing, and contextual inquiry. Comfortable speaking directly to customers.
• Capable of analyzing survey or web analytics data to identify insights and drive design direction.
• Graphic design experience including layout, illustration, and imaging expertise.
• Strong working knowledge of prototyping tools such as Axure & Balsamiq, as well as experience with Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator, and associated design tools.
• Extensive experience with user interface design patterns and standard UCD methodologies across multiple platforms.
• Highly proficient at creating quick lo-fidelity sketches/wireframes, as well as detailed hi-fidelity mockups and/or clickable prototypes.
• Ability to understand complex data models, systems, and architectures.
• Familiarity with HTML/CSS/JavaScript • Outstanding written & verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated, highly organized, detail-oriented and able to work in a team environment on multiple projects at once.
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Interaction Design, HCI, Human Factors/Ergonomics, Engineering Psychology or related field.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
• Graphic design expertise
• Technical communication experience and expertise
• Strong familiarity with new technologies and nascent interface design approaches
• Software development experience
• Strong understanding of common software project management practices
• Strong understanding of common software development practices
• Familiarity with Internet, networking, or security technology
• Understanding of telecommunications industry
