DIRECTV - SQL Server Database Administrator

As our SQL Server Database Administrator you will be responsible for enterprise-wide database management and administration. Responsibilities include maintaining highly available database environments, achieving optimal performance and ensuring database backup and recovery.

A successful SQL Server database administrator must possess knowledge in managing large scale database environments with experience in server, network, storage, virtualization, data center automation and infrastructure technologies. Our current Database environment consists of 300+ Oracle databases, and 120+ SQL Server databases set up in about 100 cluster arranged servers.  You will also need to have good knowledge in advanced database technologies such as database replication, data encryption, data synchronization, database flashback, database HA and database recovery.

•Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of all production databases.
•Handles normal database installation, creation, configuration and upgrade.
•Proactively monitors database performance.
•Manages database backups and restores.
•Manages and maintains database schemas and objects.
•Handles basic database performance issues and seeks guidance from senior DBA.
•Manages database access and privileges.
•Supports business initiatives, projects and releases.
•Manages database maintenance.
•Provides database support to Development and SQA staff.
•Provides support on non-production database administration.

Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical degree
•4 – 8 years of solid SQL Server DBA experience with at least 3 years supporting 24 x 7 production databases.
•Working experience in support mission critical databases is a plus.
•An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience (computer science or other IT related major preferred).
•Good working knowledge with either Oracle 9i/10g/11g or SQL Server 2005/2008 enterprise editions with good understanding in database planning, performance tuning and problem resolution.
•Demonstrates practical knowledge of database internals and data structures.
•Good understanding of database technology on backup and recovery, disaster recovery, high availability, replication and security.
•Demonstrates good skills in troubleshooting and problem-solving. A strong analytical background is a plus.
•Good knowledge of UNIX shell / Perl or Windows scripting languages is a plus.
•Professional SQL Server certification is a plus.
•Good written/verbal communication skills.
