DIRECTV - Sr Oracle Database Administrator

A recent internal promotion and continued company growth has opened this new position.

The Senior Database Administrator position is to manage and support the core production Oracle databases which enable DirecTV's critical business systems in both data centers in Denver and Phoenix. This individual must possess advanced database skills and knowledge on performance and tuning, recovery, replication and advanced database technologies. The database team provides 24x7 year-round supports for our production databases as well as supporting new projects and initiatives, release management and functional and performance testing.


Responsibilities

•Install, upgrade and maintain Oracle Database Servers at current patch level


•Perform database administrative tasks for new projects and scheduled maintenance activities


•Work independently to perform database performance tuning analysis, capacity planning, database sizing and ongoing maintenance/patch to ensure maximum performance


•Set up monitoring on database performance, data integrity and database replication


•Recommends and implements database backup and recovery strategies


•Recommends and implements database security policies that are consistent with Company's security guidelines


•Implement and manage database replication and disaster recovery efforts


•Collaborate closely with various IT teams on Application Development, Quality Assurance, Security and Operations to effectively support various business initiatives and projects


•Provide off-hours and weekends support





•Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science/Engineering is required


•8+ years solid Oracle DBA experience with at least 4 years supporting OLTP and e-Commerce production environments


•Strong working knowledge with Oracle 10g/11g, Oracle RAC, ASM, GoldenGate, OEM, RMAN


•Possess proven skills in database performance tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery, database replication and security


•Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills


•Work experience with Unix/Linux scripting is a must


•Experience with HP/UX and Linux OS is preferred


•Familiarity with ITIL methodology is a plus
