DIRECTV - IT Change Management Analyst, UNIX Systems Administrator

Provide System Administrative support for IT Operations - Governance Technical Services. The IT Operations - Governance Technical Services program is comprised of HP Solutions, COGNOS, SQL Server, other third party applications, demand management, release control, deployment management, production calendaring, reporting systems, Linux, Oracle and ITIL practices. This role is the primary resource for system monitoring, troubleshooting, problem resolution, system enhancements, and technical team support for Change Management. Also responsible for collaborating with supporting groups such as Incident and Problem management, Layered Products (Middleware), Application Support, Networks, and Infrastructure. The secondary responsibility of this role is to technically support all areas of Governance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
System Administration activities such as configuration changes, workflow changes, ad hoc queries and user account management
Proactively monitor the performance and availability of key business components in production environments
Portal/ Ad Hoc Reporting and queries
Open and follow-up on vendor product support tickets and enhancement requests
Participate in Project Team meeting sessions and provide task level detail feedback to the Project Manager or Project Lead for Change Management Solution Enhancements
Support Network, Servers and Database team for Change Management solutions

Qualifications


BS in Computer Science, related degree, or strong relevant. Plus 2 - 4 years experience within the following:
Linux/UNIX OS
Oracle PL/SQL
Web Development with MS tools (ASP scripting)
Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with HP Release Control 4
Experience with HP uCMDB and/or Change Impact Analysis
Experience with HP PPM 7.5 (or later) Demand and Configuration Management (workflow and request type development) - or equivalent change management tool support

Responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, upgrading and installing multiple UNIX and Windows systems utilized for 24x7 broadcasting into millions of households in Latin American countries. Systems are both vendor provided and proprietary and support critical broadcast functions such as program guides, interactive TV applications and conditional access. Will conduct root cause analysis, troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade and install hardware and software. In addition, will collaborate and work closely with internal cross-functional and vendor teams on projects, including with in-country staff located in Latin America.

Qualifications


Requires at least four years experience in UNIX. Experience with Relational Databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Sybase, DB2) is a plus. Must have strong hands-on experience in root cause analysis and troubleshooting and an extensive background with UNIX-based operating systems and shell scripting, MS-DOS batch files and/or Perl on Win32/UNIX. In addition, must have experience installing/supporting hardware (including cabling and racking) and software as well as a thorough understanding of Windows (NT through 2008), Linux, Solaris and HP-UX operating systems and TCP/IP networking. A degree in engineering or related field is preferred and the ability to speak Spanish and Portuguese is a plus.

Candidates must possess excellent communication, multi-tasking and analytical skills and be able to work successfully in a diverse, cross-functional, deadline-driven and highly-dynamic team environment that spans multiple cultures and countries.

Because this is a 24x7x365 broadcast operations environment, candidates must be able to work overtime, off and extended hours and be on a rotating on-call schedule.
