NextAction is currently looking for a Decision Support Engineer to work in its Research and Development group.

Job Description
The Database Administration position will be responsible for the development and consistent production operation of multi-terabyte Oracle databases. Occasional SQL Server database administration will be required. The primary responsibility will be to interact with users to derive reporting needs, work on adhoc reports, extracting data, as well as automating basic database administration tasks and adhoc request. This position does require some occasional night and weekend work and will be involved in an on-call rotation.

Skills and Qualifications
* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Intermediate SQL skills (SQL Server Administration, SQL query tuning, and Transact SQL)

* Linux / Unix administration

* Korn Shell Scripting

* Reporting Tools (SQL Server Reporting Services / Crystal Reports)

* Experience with Oracle DBA/Developer, as well as PL-SQL

Job Description
The Director of Database Engineering is responsible for all aspects of a 24X7, very large and high performing production database system. This is a leadership role with the primary responsibility to manage and motivate a team of senior database administrators and developers who continually strive to improve our data services in a fast moving and evolving business environment. This position requires exceptional technical skills and vision in order to guide the improvement of a leading edge, highly data-integrated, centralized set of systems. Therefore, proven hands-on technical and architectural expertise in the design and implementation of large-scale database projects is required. This position is also responsible for supporting the software development process from the database perspective by ensuring that any enhancements or new applications are designed to be scalable, expandable and easy to maintain.

Primary responsibilities include:
** Providing strong leadership to a group that performs ongoing database development, administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, tuning, installation, backup/recovery, and data migration of Oracle and SQL Server databases running on Linux and Windows servers in multiple environments
** Overseeing the designs of logical and physical databases in Oracle and SQL Server
** Attending product specification meetings with project team members to determine the scope and limitations of each project
** Working closely with Project Management, Software Development, QA and Production to coordinate product releases
** Advising senior management on Best Practices regarding data warehousing, data architecture, and data development, including release management and build management

Skills and Qualifications
** Prior experience managing and leading a team of a skilled database administrators and developers
** Recognizable leadership skills in order to effect change as necessary
** Minimum 7+ year**s related experience with Oracle 9i/10g administration, programming, and architecture
** Proven experience on Oracle advanced features, such as RAC, Data Guard, partitioning, streams, replication, and parallel processing
** Minimum 7+ years experience with SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005
** Experience with SQL Analytical Services as well as SQL Reporting Services a plus
** Knowledge of UNIX/Linux as well as Windows Server operating systems and standards
** Solid understanding of database and data warehouse design essential
** Strong knowledge of building solid high performance enterprise applications, along with an understanding of application engineering, SOA and n-tier architecture
