Denver Water’s Information Technology Division is currently seeking a qualified candidate to assist us as a I.​T.​ Database Administrator III working under direction, responsible for data management, data integrity, data security, data recoveryand data access performance for database system applications across the enterprise and assistsproduction support and application development teams as needed.​May exercise supervision over personnel assigned while performing comparable duties.​ The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have a strong desire and a passion to assist Denver Water to become the “best water utility in the nation”.​


The successful candidate will be able to perform the following duties:

·         Design, create and manage, tuning, troubleshooting and monitoring on all Denver Water databases, on all platforms (MS-SQL 2008, MS-SQL 2012 and Oracle 11g & 12c).​

·         Create technical scripts and tools for the enhancement of performance, security, reliability and ease of use.​

·         Responsible for the security of the databases and access to the data.​

·         Store, manage and extract large amounts data effectively in varying database architectures.​

·         Implement tools to assist in performing the functions of a DBA and their responsibilities.​

·         Assist in the planning and implementation of backup and for the recovery strategies for all databases and associated applications.​

·         Create and maintain database standards and procedures.​

·         Experience with Microsoft Operating Systems 2008 and 2012.​

·         Experience with HPUX 11.​23 and 11.​31 Operating Systems or other UNIX based systems.​

·         Ability to take leadership positions on a project level.​

·         Performs related duties as assigned.​


Qualifications for appointment:

Thorough knowledge of database architecture, administration, and support, thorough knowledge of relational database modeling and relational database techniques.​

Hands on expertise with contemporary RDBMS products and tools, considerable knowledge of operating systems and their procedures.​

Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong interpersonal skills to include the ability to be solutions oriented and to drive continual process improvement.​

Thorough business applications development knowledge or experience.​

Thorough analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.​

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.​


Education Requirements:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in computer science or related

field, or equivalent education, as determined by the requirements for specialized knowledge.​


Experience Requirements:

Five years’ experience in designing, modeling, developing, and supporting large application databases, minimum of four years as a DBA.​

License, Certificate or Credential:

DBA certification from contemporary RDBMS vendors


Other Requirements:

Requires on-call support nights and weekends.​ Position may require HIPAA training.​
