GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for design and implementation of the Microstrategy schema layer, Microstrategy web interface, object and user management and supporting analysts with complex object creation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
*Architect highly reliable, scalable, extensible, and maintainable BI projects using MicroStrategy
*Working with business users and Product Managers to understand project requirements
*Creating and maintaining MicroStrategy metadata objects
*MicroStrategy user management
*Microstrategy Narrowcast management
*Provide support to report developers in creating complicated objects
*Work closely with data modelers to make sure physical database schema is optimal for MicroStrategy usage
*Work closely with DWD and Analysts to define and architect features and products that require significant cross-component coordination
*Evaluates and suggests ways to optimize systems usage.
*Supports team training projects as needed.
*Acts as a mentor and role model to team members by assisting them with required job responsibilities and providing input to their skill and knowledge growth.
*Assists with team management responsibilities as requested.
*Assists other areas with data processing by providing information.
*Keeps current on new information technologies and techniques.
*Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY:
Programming Languages/Applications
*MicroStrategy schema manager, user management, narrowcast and report creator
*BI project design experience with MicroStrategy
*SQL, PL/SQL and SQL*Plus.
*Oracle and Unix
*Data warehouse and data modeling skills
*Web development languages * Java, ruby, flash
*Writing design documents and technical specifications
Technology Concepts
*Expert knowledge required in Microstrategy
*Expert knowledge in creating, maintaining and implementing BI projects
*Expert knowledge required in programming concepts and data structures and algorithms
*Expert knowledge required in data warehouse theory and applications, and star schema (Kimball Model).
General
*Understanding of core business areas in Workers* Compensation.
*Ability to tailor requirements gathering process to customer business needs.
*Ability to manage customer expectations by setting request scope within known skill sets and available team resources.
*Ability to effectively communicate in written and oral form.
*Ability to negotiate effectively with IS department staff, particularly the CIO, Data & Network Services and Application Services.
*Ability to assist team in negotiating effectively with customers and executive staff regarding business assignments.
*Ability to assist with training on data warehouse concepts and related topics.
*Ability to lead meetings of all types.
*Proficiency in problem solving and strong ability to apply systems logic.
EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience; computer science degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
*Experience with all of Microstrategy*s components required
*Experience working with Oracle and/or other relational database management systems, and the use of database query tools using SQL is required.
*Experience working with data warehouse design, implementation and maintenance in a production environment.
*Experience working in UNIX environment.
Office environment. This position requires that a cellphone be carried during normal business hours and as additionally requested by management to be reached in case of business need and employee may be on-call at designated times. As a requirement of being on-call, the employee must be able to respond to a pager call within 15 minutes. Employee will be required to resolve the issue/problem either by dialing in from home or returning to the workplace within two hours if required.
