CableLabs is looking for a Database Engineer for new development
projects, who will work closely with Product Management and Software
Engineering to analyze and document data requirements and to design
abstract models that describe how data will be represented and accessed.
The Database Engineer also works closely with Operations to create
database disaster recovery plans.
The Database Engineer is responsible for database tuning and I/O tuning
to maximize the use of system resources and achieve optimal performance.
Additionally, the Database Engineer is responsible for maintaining
appropriate data dictionary documentation and for establishing standards
and best practices. The Database Engineer will also be responsible for
creating and executing complex queries to help the business answer
questions about the information systems supported.
FUNCTIONS
· Interfaces with Product Management Team and Software
Engineering Team to analyze and document data requirements
· Responsible for conceptual, logical and physical data
modeling and database design
· Responsible for database disaster recovery design and
planning
· Proactively monitor systems for optimum performance and
capacity constrains, recommend adjustments and tuning as needed
· Responsible for data dictionary maintenance and
documentation of database organization, contents and conventions
· Coordinate with the Operations Team with regard to hardware
and software installations and configuration so that the DBMS functions
optimally
· Work with the Operations Team to plan for, monitor, and
administer DBMS security
· Establish standards and best practices for SQL, interact
with and coach team members in SQL scripting
QUALIFICATIONS
· Requires BS Degree (computer science, information
technology, or management information systems degree preferred),
technical certification, or comparable work experience
· 6-7 years DBMS experience with a minimum of 3 years
experience with design, operation,
maintenance, and support of SQL Server 2005 or higher, experience with
SQL Server 2008 is a plus.
· Knowledgeable on SQL Reporting and Clustering. Experience
with database encryption methods/models as it relates to PCI compliance
· Ability to interpret and write complex SQL queries and
familiarity with other major scripting and
programming languages
· Knowledge of the following: Installing and Configuring SQL
Server 2005 or above, SQL Server File Structure Architecture, Importing
and Exporting Data with DTS or SSIS, SQL Server Analysis Services, SQL
Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Security, SQL Server Backup and
Recovery, SQL Server Replication, SQL Server Job Scheduling, Advanced
T-SQL Programming, SQL Server Profiler, Performance Tuning
· Experience designing and implementing data warehouses
· Experience with data modeling
· Experience with relational database design and architecture
· Experience with servers and networking
