Sun Java Systems Directory Services Principal Analyst

The Sun Java Directory Services Principal Analyst role is to work collectively with a team to ensure stable operation of Staples Directory Services environment. The service environment is comprised of Windows Active Directory, Sun Java System Directory Services, and Open LDAP distributed across 28 countries and multiple lines of business. The team is responsible for architecture, engineering, maintenance and support of directory services and those applications that utilize them.

* Develop, socialize and implement long term strategic plans to support the Directory Service requirements of all Staples lines of business. Solutions must be architecturally sound, stable, robust, scalable and adaptable to other efforts.
* Participate in initiatives to integrate acquired lines of business into Staples directories.
* Monitor Directory Services environments including Sun Java System Directory Services, Open LDAP, and Active Directory.
* Maintains strict change control of directory services infrastructure.
* Maintains tests and updates disaster recovery plans.
* Successfully troubleshoot and provide resolutions for any and all problems assigned to you.
* Root Cause analysis; work with other teams and staff to identify root cause of problems and make recommendations on how to stop repeat issues.
* Provide proper rotating on-call duties as assigned.
* Complete all projects assignments on time and within budget.
* Provide timely and meaningful metrics showing status of active projects including progress and completion dates.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
* Sun certifications preferred but not required.
* Understanding of PCI/SOX and other compliance requirements is helpful.
* 5-7 years experience with Sun Java System Directory Services in a large corporate environment.
* Experience with Linux and Open LDAP is very helpful.
* Experience with Sun Identify and Access Manager is helpful.
* Experience supporting complex directory service environments on a global scale as well as participated in migration from iPlanet or Sun Java System DS v5.x.
* Familiar with company acquisitions and the integration of services dependent on centralized Directory Services.
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills, enjoy dealing with people at all levels of the organization, be customer service focused and thrive in a fast paced environment

Position Summary:
May lead or assist in the design, implementation, and operation of the enterprise-wide infrastructure. Lead planning and development of tools, utilities, and mechanisms that automate the operation, monitoring, and documentation of enterprise infrastructure. Implement and enhance inter-departmental tools that facilitate workflow processes between engineering support staff, computer security personnel, and other groups dependent on our systems. Facilitate progress of projects, working within and outside of the System Engineering area.

Major Accountability:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Develop processes that ensure highest reliability, strong system and network security, and optimal performance characteristics within a large-scale campus enterprise, including metrics that quantify these characteristics and documentation that accurately reflects the configuration of our systems and network.
* Work in collaboration with other departments or organizations to develop and analyze systems in support of their projects or mission, then upgrade or enhance the infrastructure to meet their requirements.
* Lead projects and efforts that require specialized infrastructure skills.
* Work with the various project stakeholders to facilitate implementation and completion of the projects.
* Design secure infrastructure for critical applications.
* Design and development of disaster recovery and system recovery plans.
* Define infrastructure requirements for the implementation of new applications.
* May act as project manager in area of expertise.
* Provide technical support for complex production systems and services.
* Proactively monitor infrastructure for optimal performance and provide input for capacity planning and fine tune infrastructure when needed.
* Lead in the evaluation of new products and services.
* May execute specific activities related to the improvement or performance of systems infrastructures.
* Identifies areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed. Maintains all relevant documentation.
* Participates in related industry organizations and special interest groups.
* Maintains relationships with 3rd party technical support providers.
* WAN/LAN design and implementation
* Primarily responsible for system designs, future network, root cause elimination and capacity planning of corporate and enterprise data center infrastructure
* Experience on large-scale network infrastructure projects supporting end-to-end connectivity
* Configure and troubleshoot WAN routers and LAN switches
* Application analysis, as it pertains to performance with network electronics

Qualifications
* Bachelor Degree: Computer Science
* 8 to 10 years related work experience
* Several years experience, including Nortel and Cisco
* Extensive experience with global environments
* Knowledge of TCP/IP network services, OSPF, BGP, MPLS
* Ecommerce background desired
* Proficient knowledge of project management methodologies and or leading large technical projects
