We are currently looking for a Principal Architect to join our team at our Louisville, Colorado facility.

SUMMARY

The OpenCable Principal Architect is responsible for working
independently as well as part of a team to develop, design, and
manage the detailed software and hardware requirements associated
with OpenCable. This includes working with MSOs, vendors, and
external organizations to build consensus, document business and
technical requirements, create and modify specifications, insure the
specifications meets members needs and most importantly to control
and manage the architectural integrity of the OpenCable platforms.

This individual:
• Must be able to work with little or no supervision and demonstrate excellent judgment in making day to day planning and decisions.
• Must be able to represent the Director when necessary and appropriate to meet business need. This includes representation at external meetings/forums.
• Must be able to manage a technical team.
• Must be able to make presentations in front of groups of various sizes and backgrounds with little or no preparation. This includes members, vendors and Cablelabs senior management.
• Must to be the acknowledged authority on all OpenCable specifications.
• Must be a recognized expert in software architectures and technologies including:
o Java
o Flash
o UPnP
o Middleware Platforms
• Must be able to achieve member and vendor consensus while maintaining the architectural integrity of the OpenCable Platforms.
• Must be able to creatively draw on resources from within CableLabs, its member companies, various standards bodies, and the vendor community to achieve these goals.
• Will coordinate closely with other CableLabs staff to ensure that the technical deliverables meet business and marketing objectives.
• Will be responsible for driving technical decisions and escalating unresolved issues to the Director, OpenCable Specifications when required.

FUNCTIONS

• Develop and implement project plan for areas of responsibility.
• Support standardization and harmonization efforts in SCTE, ITU, and DVB through meetings, and technical contributions.
• Negotiate consensus among members and vendors to establish software and hardware specifications. Escalate unresolved issues to the Director, OpenCable Specifications for timely resolution.
• Recruit, manage, and coordinate member, vendor and contract resources required to support the technical deliverables.
• Support regulatory activities through presentations, meetings and documentation of technical issues.
• Develop a constructive, functional relationship with other CableLabs team members.
• Communicate to member companies and the industry-at-large, the progress and outcomes of CableLabs efforts. Write reports and articles for peer-review journals and trade publications; make presentations at conferences, industry forums and workshops or otherwise communicate findings by other means as appropriate.
• Act as directed by the Director, OpenCable Specifications, as staff liaison to CableLabs subcommittees, taskforces or working groups.
• Work with little or no direction for all activities.
• Develop and implement innovative solutions and processes.
• Perform other duties, including Director level activities, as assigned and required.

• Plan for and produce work product of very high quality.
• Make appropriate use of CableLabs safety policies and procedures (See Safety Manual).
• Help other CableLabs departments meet goals and objectives. Share knowledge and cooperate with other departments.
• Promote and enhance the Company's image.
• Exhibit advanced organizational, communications and interpersonal relations skills.
• Exercise initiative in areas of responsibility.
• Maintain, update and improve job knowledge.
• Cooperate with supervisors to resolve conflicting work assignments for support employees.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in software development, maintenance and operations in the cable set-top box and headend arenas required.
• Knowledge in large-scale distributed computing environments required.
• Knowledge and experience in software intellectual property rights is highly desirable.
• Bachelors and Masters' degree in an analytical field, such as electrical engineering or computer science, desired.
• Proven ability to work without supervision
• Proven ability to be innovative in solutions and processes required.
• Proven ability to build consensus among diverse groups required.
• Proven ability to control and manage the architecture of platform architectures required.
• Proven ability to direct and manage an engineering team.
• Knowledge of cable systems architecture, operations and procedures is desirable.
• Willingness to travel.
