Kaiser Permanente - Data Modeler

The Kaiser Permanente Colorado (KPCO) Business Intelligence Strategy (BIS) Program was developed to enable KPCO to take advantage of the wealth of clinical and claim data to enhance our competitive advantage. The KPCO region has evolved in its data management and analytical capabilities over the years using a variety of approaches, technologies, data sources and support models.
The investment in a long-term Business Intelligence (BI) solution that is scalable to meet ongoing business demands is being recognized as an imperative for the organization, as it has reached an understanding that a mature BI environment is a necessary enabler in achieving many of the goals defined in the regional strategy. Due to the complex nature of the KPCO application environments and how the data is managed between these systems, databases, and business applications, an experienced data modeler is needed to manage the data relationships, the content of the data and how the data is used to manage our business.
Essential Functions:
- Lead business information modeling for large, complex projects and to ensure that project information conforms to corporate information architecture standards.
- Demonstrated domain knowledge of claims, membership, benefits and providers and clinical healthcare.
- Collaborate with all application delivery teams including business clients, data analysts, data modelers, ETL developers, business analysts, DBA's and report developers regarding data, sourcing, how the data will be used and managed.
- Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend the most efficient and cost-effective systems solutions.
- Identify, research and recommend new methods for supporting information management as it relates to data management.
- Consult with IT staff and clients to determine the impact of new or revised applications on information infrastructure and architecture.
- Work with business consulting leads and business clients to analyze business information requirements and translate into logical and physical database designs.
- Works with IT peers to ensure integration of data models across projects.
- Develop high-level database architectures and ensure that database designs are consistent with information architecture and information management industry standards.
- Ability to conduct sessions with business users to identify data sources, key facts and dimensions, that support the business requirements.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or 4 years of additional work experience
- Minimum of 12 years of Information Technology experience, preferably in large, complex organizations.
- Minimum of 4 years experience data warehousing/business intelligence development and architecture experience (full life cycle).
- Minimum of 4 years experience deploying and supporting large, complex data warehouse/business intelligence solutions (full life cycle).
- Minimum of 4 years experience designing relational (conceptual, logical, physical) and dimensional data models for data warehouse/business intelligence.
- Minimum of 4 years experience working with a range of RDBMS (Oracle, Teradata, DB2, etc).
- Extensive experience integrating disparate systems into conformed dimensions.
- Strong hands-on ERwin data modeling tool experience.
- Strong experience with SQL query and RDBMS tuning.
- Strong experience working with UNIX (AIX, etc).
- Understanding of data integration tools (Informatica, etc).
- Understanding of metadata repository processes and tools
- Understanding of business intelligence reporting tools (Business Objects, Cognos, etc).
- Excellent written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work closely with technical teams and business users of the data warehouse/business intelligence environments.
- Establish and manage data modeling, data integration, data access standards and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree
