ServiceMagic - System Administrator

ServiceMagic, Inc., the leading online marketplace connecting homeowners with prescreened and customer rated service professionals is looking for a System Administrator to add to the growing IT department. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and ambitious professional that has broad-based experience with Unix/Linux configuration, Oracle DBA, Networking & TCPIP.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual selected for this position is primarily responsible for keeping all UNIX servers, Oracle Database instances and supporting network systems performing at peak operating levels. This applies to our 7X24 production website, database and ancillary systems as well as our Development and QA environments. Activities require interaction with application software, operating systems and network devices to diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring software problems. The position utilizes one-on-one consultancy with ServiceMagic server and application administrative staff as well as the Database and Java development team members. The employee in this position also assists in the maintenance of all aspects of the ServiceMagic production hardware and applications. The position*s responsibilities require independent analyses, communication and problem solving. Work is performed with little direct supervision and requires initiative and judgment.

REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a minimum of 5 years of hands-on Solaris UNIX/Redhat Linux Admin experience, including administration of servers hosting web servers, app servers and Oracle databases
At least 5 years of hands-on TCP/IP networking with strong demonstrable Switch, Router, Firewall and Load Balancer management experience. Cisco is the preferred equipment vendor
Significant troubleshooting and tuning experience

* Ability to demonstrate all of the above

PLUSES:
* DBA experience in a production environment.
* Project lead responsibility for 7x24 online systems (planning and executing hardware and software installations and upgrades)
* Cluster management (Veritas, etc)
* Experience installing and configuring Unix or Linux VM environments
* Experience supporting software configuration management systems
* Architecture experience designing systems and networks that never go down
