Sr. Software Database Engineer - SQL Server 2005



Will provide technical leadership for all database design and
implementation work within the department, as well as designing,
developing and testing database systems.



Will work directly with management, database support groups, software
engineers and QA engineers to ensure that all solutions are
well-designed, highly performing and conform to company standards and
goals. In addition, will be responsible to provide hands-on technical
contributions to development efforts, to include the analysis, design,
programming and testing of enhancements and development projects.



Will provide maintenance and support for existing software applications.
Other duties include developing testing tools to help ensure code
quality, testing B2B software components, developing specifications, and
developing supporting documentation.



Principle duties and responsibilities:

* Works with other Software Engineers, Managers, Product
Management, QA, and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions
that meet company initiatives with respect to functionality,
performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation
schedules, and adherence to development goals and principles.

* Assists in the design, creation and implementation of the SQL
Server 2005 database system for Content.

* Designs E-R models, Views and Stored Procedures for use by the
Content products.

* Analyzes existing stored procedures, and optimizes for
performance.

* Re-implements existing stored procedures, as necessary, to
maximize performance.

* Works as part of the development team to define and refine
view definitions of current data model.

* Analyzes existing ETL processes for completeness, correctness
and performance.

* Designs and implements new tables, views and stored procedures
to support Content development.

* Works with the DBA team to analyze current performance
bottlenecks in production and development, and suggests optimizations to
improve performance.

* Contributes to project document reviews, and design/code
reviews.

* Adheres to IT Control Policies throughout design, development
and testing, and incorporates Architectural Standards into application
design specifications.

* Generates supporting unit tests, as well as system test
specifications and implementations.

* Works independently with some day-to-day instruction and
general direction for new assignments.

* Interacts with Product Owners and customers to verify and
clarify requirements and design decisions.

Required Skills:

* Must be able to work independently and as part of a team on
multiple overlapping projects.

* Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

* Strong written and oral communication skills, to include the
ability to facilitate meeting discussions to identify effective
solutions.

* Some knowledge of Java and/or Data Access Layer technology
(Hibernate) desired.

* Practical DB design, layout and implementation skills.

* Proven experience working as part of a software development
team.

* Experience in technical and or managerial leadership positions
desired.

* Experience working in an Agile development environment
desired.



Required Qualifications:

* B.S. in Computer Science or related degree, or a combination
of education and related experience.

* 10+ years of hands-on experience in software development, with
6+ years experience in the development of commercial database
applications.

* Intimate knowledge of MS SQL Server 2005.
