ViaWest, Inc., a super-regional provider of colocation and managed hosting solutions, has an opportunity for an experienced SQL Server Database Engineer. This position is responsible for providing database administration of Microsoft SQL Server databases and includes daily monitoring and maintenance of multiple customers and multiple divergent installations. Primary Duties:
Database Administration of production SQL Server 2005, 2008, and 2012 servers, both physical and virtual.
Install and configure new SQL hosts for optimal performance. Test and apply service packs and hotfixes.
Monitor, manage, and maintain backup and maintenance jobs. Plan and perform mock recoveries of database backups.
Proactively monitor database performance to address issues and work to improve performance.
Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for MSSQL, MySQL and Oracle escalations.
Participate in planning and troubleshooting version upgrades of database applications.
Perform capacity planning and provide recommendations to customers.
Create, maintain, and provide both customer and internal operational documentation.
Maintain security schemes at the operating system, database server, instance, and database level.
Willingness to learn and administer new technologies.
Willingness to work in a geographically dispersed environment.
Related Experience:
4 years solid experience with Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration
2 years experience and/or familiarity with SQL Log Shipping, Mirroring, and Clustering
Strong knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems
Oracle and MySQL experience or exposure preferred
Systems administration and/or development experience desired
