SummaryPerforms second tier NOC Technician support by working in a fast-paced, Network Operations Center. Demonstrates a good balance of technical knowledge and customer support skills. Supports Level3's global network backbone, 24x7x365, by performing break/fix activities for all aspects of the Level3 network and the services that ride the network. Acts as first line of defense, from a troubleshooting and triage standpoint, receiving work from NOC Technicians whose primary focus is surveillance. Observes and controls the status and performance of all components of network facilities. Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves problems affecting network performance and escalates to higher tier support usng time based and severity criteria. Performs scheduled and break/fix maintenance work according to prescribed methods and procedures in pre-designated windows.

Essential Duties* Uses software and hardware tools to identify and diagnose network status and problems.
* Provides guidance and direction to less experienced network monitoring technicians.
* Monitors network operations and resolves moderately complex network monitoring problems.
* Monitors the performance of the telecommunications networks, including usage, load patterns, and system response.
* Creates maintenances to be performed by other Technicians (Tier II) and above.
* Performs tasks associated with the installation, turn up and maintenance of Level 3 Communications' core network.

Education and Experience* Experience: 2+ yrs
* Education Level: High School/GED
* Field Of Study: Telecommunications or Related Field
* A combination of education and experience is acceptable: Yes
* Attention to detail with good organizational capabilities.
* Ability to prioritize with good time management skills.

Knowledge, Skills or AbilitiesExceptional customer service skills.
Ability to multi-task during major outages.
Ability to communicate effectively with managers, customers and vendors on escalation status.
Ability to manage technical workload and engage senior technicians and management as appropriate.
Ability to maintain a solid working relationship includng collaborative technical activities with peers.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills required.
Advanced knowledg of the OSI Model and common telecommunications technologies and protocols such as: TCP/IP, Ethernet, SONET/SDH, DWDM, DNS, T1s, T3s, etc.
Good analytical and problem solving skills,
Ability to work extra hours as needed.
Ability to be self-motivated and a self-learner.

Work Environment* Government Security Required: No

Sits five to seven hours per day. Stands and or walks one to three hours per day. May bend, reach, stoop and crouch throughout the day. Should have the ability to hear, speak and see effectively to perform the necessary tasks of this position. Manual dexterity is occasionally required. The position may require frequent movement and activity relating to using keyboards, viewing data on computer displays, and communicating verbally and in writing to the needs of others. The employee-owner may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
Limited travel with day-to-day tasks will taking place at our primary Media Operations Center in Tulsa Oklahoma, Atlanta Georgia or World Headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado.

Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have CCNP / JNCIS certification + WAN routing/switching experience + hardware replacement experience.
