Colorado State University - Jr. Web Developer

In daily practice, what is this supposed to mean a junior programmer should be doing?  Including the latest web scripting language for diversity purposes?

This full time, 12-month Administrative Professional position is located within the Registrar’s Office Systems Unit, Division of Enrollment and Access.  The Registrar’s Office exists to support students in their educational goals by providing services in the areas of registration, academic records, management, degree evaluation, transfer evaluation, and academic and classroom scheduling.  The goal of the office is to provide support and services that will enable students to enroll, be retained, and graduate or fulfil other educational goals.  The Registrar’s Office serves all Colorado State University students and connects with a large number of faculty, staff, alumni, and family members.  The Registrar Systems Group supports the mission of the Registrar by providing reliable and accurate application support to the Registrar’s Office for department unique software applications, data, and web based student data services.

The purpose of this Web Developer position is to use technology to solve business problems, improve existing business processes and deliver dynamic web based services to students, staff and faculty.  This position requires strong programming knowledge in c#.NET, asp.NET, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5 and experience with MS SQL Server or Oracle.

The selected candidate is one who will be comfortable working in high stress situations, and a person who is able to communicate with non-technical internal customers.  In addition the selected candidate will have the ability to use problem solving skills, logic and professional judgment to determine root cause of the issue and resolution.  As a professional employee, it is expected that the staff member will attend professional development workshops and or professional organization conferences and handle additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
·         Associate’s degree from an accredited institution or two years of professional programming experience.
·         Minimum one year of experience with web application development and object-oriented programming and SQL programming and relational database systems.
·         Excellent communication skills as demonstrated in application materials.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
·         Familiarity with Application and Web Development utilizing Visual Studio.
·         Familiarity with database management systems (such as Oracle and/or SQL server)
·         Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle methodologies i.e. thorough application testing and  requirements gathering
·         Experience  developing  and presenting user and technical documentation
·         Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
·         Utilize tools, such as Visual Studio, c#, asp.NET, PL/SQL Developer, SQL Server Enterprise Manager, jQuery, JavaScript, Subversion, and Microsoft Access.
·         Work closely with the Assistant Registrar of Systems Development and the office leadership team to ensure effective development and use of the applications used by the office for student success initiatives, including connections to the University’s student information system, Banner.
·         Develop applications using a variety of client-side and server-side technologies.
·         Support a variety of aspects in our applications, including data maintenance, system configuration, building reports, creating forms, designing workflows, managing communication flow, user account administration, etc.  Communicate regularly with users to identify requirements, determining ways to use the system to meet these requirements.
·         Responsible for full system life cycle development.
·         Write and publish user and technical documentation for all applications and reports developed.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary is $50,000 – $55,000 annually/plus University benefits.
