EchoStar - Virtualization Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Datastore Engineer, Storage Engineer

EchoStar Technologies is looking for a highly motivated individual to take full ownership of the on-premise cloud environment of the EchoStar OTT Services division. The successful candidate for our Staff Virtualization Engineer will have at least 4 years deep experience with the VMWare cloud product suite and 10 years of large scale web services experience. We are looking for a VMWare product and related technologies subject matter expert. Although the environment is very VMware-centric, familiarity with virtualization technologies from other vendors is a plus.
This position requires a mixture of architecture, engineering, and support. Qualified candidates should have highly developed troubleshooting and analytical skills.  This position can be hired in either Superior, Colorado or Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Duties and Responsibilities

  *  Provide technical leadership to our OTT services team as we deploy and grow our consumer facing web services for the delivery of TV Everywhere in a highly virtualized environment.
  *  Design and deploy a highly functional self-service cloud portal for use by application development teams for dev and test sandbox deployments.
  *  Drive cloud roadmap based on business unit requirements while maintaining cost efficiencies and effective resource allocation.
  *  Based on expert skills, train a growing team on the installation, configuration, and management of VMware ESX.
  *  Apply in-depth knowledge of VMware vCenter, vCloud Director and Cisco's CIAC etc. to a greenfield cloud environment defining monitoring standards, operational procedures and growth plan.
  *  Develop, implement and maintain a robust backup and disaster recovery plan for the cloud.
  *  Work with partner vendors as well as application engineering teams to define best practices virtual architecture for development and highly available production environments.
  *  Guide the development of the teams' practical knowledge acquisition of virtualization solutions from vendors such as Rightscale, Scalr, Cisco and EMC
  *  Lead cross-functional team efforts to identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks and make performance-related recommendations (hardware, software, configuration) in the virtual environment.
  *  Make configuration/patch recommendations for guest operating systems deployments such as a variety of Linux flavors and Windows.
  *  Work with Data Security team to ensure the cloud remains sensibly secure and define an appropriate access plan for all business units.

Skills and Qualifications

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  *  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Computer Information Systems.
  *  Strong Supervisory skills a must.
  *  Vendor CERTS VMWare, EMC, Cisco are a plus
  *  5+ years' experience plan, design, configuration and support of large scale virtual environments for consumer web services
  *  Excellent performance tuning, troubleshooting abilities of the ESX platform.
  *  5+ years' experience with both SAN and NAS technologies
  *  5+ years performing capacity planning, performance analysis and development of data disaster recovery plans for large scale virtual environments
  *  5+ years with one or more of the following: C, UNIX shell scripting, Perl, Python, Power CLI or similar languages
  *  Demonstrated successes in projects requiring data replication technologies and low-impact server migration strategies.
  *  7 years' experience performing general Linux and Windows system administration including installation, maintenance, upgrade, configuration, performance tuning, troubleshooting and resolving operating system issues
  *  Able to communicate clearly with peers as well as management and provide technical leadership to more junior team members.
  *  Flexibility to adjust to changing requirements, schedules and priorities
  *  The ability to socialize ideas, make recommendations and gather team consensus to move forward
  *  Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking.

Duties and Responsibilities

  *  Architect, supervise and participate in the implementation of technologies and platforms supporting a complex web services and virtualized infrastructure.
  *  Ensure high availability of OTT Services platforms that support our consumer facing applications as well as development teams.
  *  Troubleshoot and remediate Tier 3 issues impacting the operation of OTT services
  *  Provide direction and supervision of Tier 1,2 operations staff on the implementation and upgrade of DNS, NTP, Active Directory, Terminal Services and Management automation technologies.
  *  Serve as one of the primary points of contact for complex Linux infrastructure deployments and troubleshooting.
  *  Work closely with all levels of OTT Services team to define infrastructure roadmaps that balance upgrades with application requirements.
  *  Assist with planning and implementing systems and network integrations.
  *  Document the design, operation and troubleshooting of technology platforms and procedures.
  *  Mentor and educate OTT Services staff on the operation and configuration of new infrastructure systems and their interoperability.
  *  Perform all activities in keeping with established change management and approval procedures.
  *  Evaluate new technologies and platforms to determine their applicability to solving our business challenges and needs.

Education, Experience and Certifications:

  *  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Computer Information Systems - education requirement can be substituted with demonstrated commensurate experience.

  *  Expert knowledge of DNS, NTP, Active Directory, Terminal Services and Management automation technologies
  *  Expert in at least one scripting language - Shell, Perl, PHP etc.

  *  Lead data strategy, design and architecture while providing input to the application development teams on how to utilize the capabilities of NoSQL Technologies.

EchoStar Technologies, is seeking a well-qualified Storage Engineer.  In this position, which can be worked in Superior, or Cheyenne, WY, you would be responsible for managing various technical aspects and big-data storage architecture of the EchoStar Over-The-Top (OTT) Services division. Involved in the storage architecture decisions for a multi-Petabyte content processing and delivery environment supporting the high growth business segments of web and mobile OTT services.  The principal functions of the Staff Storage Systems Engineer position is to plan and manage the installation, configuration and tuning of SAN and storage hardware and software including DR appliances according to best practices, while ensuring high levels of data quality and availability for all OTT customers in a 24x7 Enterprise Storage Systems environment including but not limited to EMC/Isilon, NetApp, and IBM storage devices.  This position can be hired in either Superior, Colorado or Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Duties and Responsibilities

  *  Demonstrated working proficiency in SAN fabric management (ISLs, utilization, zoning, masking, etc.)
  *  Deep knowledge of SAN hardware and software from Cisco, Brocade and/or Juniper fabric architectures.
  *  Administer hardware components specifically focused on EMC/Isilon, but may also include NetApp and HP/3PAR.
  *  Familiar with wide variety of storage systems, big-data storage, virtualization technologies and the appropriate backup environments for each
  *  Interpret storage protocols including iSCSI, Fiber Channel, CIFS, NFS, NDMP and work with platforms that use them.
  *  Maintain partnerships and leverage market technologies associated with SAN vendors, product enhancements and product roadmaps to determine how they can be beneficially applied to the company's enterprise
  *  Maintain current knowledge of storage-related trends and issues including current emerging technologies and best practices
  *  Develop and implement performance tuning strategies for all storage clusters providing trend analysis to all levels of the organization
  *  Provide capacity planning, performance analysis, develop disaster recovery plans, lead efforts towards storage consolidation and identify storage growth, manage configurations of storage media and storage management software.
  *  Provide technical expertise, guidance and strategic recommendations to develop a roadmap that ensures that the current and planned technical backup solutions are compatible with the company's business needs and strategic objectives
  *  Develop, implement and oversee policies and procedures to ensure consistent storage provisioning, uptime and data protection
  *  Willingness to manage a 24x7x365 storage and backup environment including on-call rotation, weekend work, etc.
  *  Extensive experience in design and documentation of backup/restore strategies via enterprise class backup solutions for highly virtualized environments.
