Senior Data Warehouse Developer

Job Description

eToys Direct is looking for a skilled, experienced and dynamic data warehouse developer to join our Business Intelligence Team. The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to work with all areas of the company to build decision support solutions for marketing (e.g., catalog circulation, e-mail campaigns, on-line marketing efforts), merchandising (e.g., SKU forecasting, assortment planning, performance measurement), finance, fulfillment and others.

Responsibilities

Work within the business intelligence team to extend and improve upon an existing Oracle 9i enterprise data warehouse solution. Identify where improvements need to be made in order to support new requirements and/or more efficiently support existing functionality.

Design, build and deploy new decision support solutions within the architecture.

Improve upon existing standards, guidelines and ETL processes needed for the continued development of the data warehouse environment.

Balance ease-of-use, performance and maintainability within the architecture.

Ensure that service levels in regard to refresh times, query response times and data quality are maintained and do not unexpectedly erode over time.

Ensure that new functionality and modifications to existing functionality are consistent with the existing architecture and any directional changes defined for the architecture.

Work closely with the system administrators and DBAs that support the data warehouse hardware and database environment.

Skills and Experience

5+ years data warehouse ETL development and dimensional model design.
3+ years Data warehousing experience within Oracle.
Solid SQL, PL/SQL and direct path load experience within Oracle.
Understanding of unix command line, k-shell or other scripting languages.
BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or other IT related field.
Sound decision making with the ability to think and act independently in a dynamic work environment.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to develop rapport with end-users.

Oracle Database Administrator


eToys Direct, Inc. is seeking an experienced Oracle DBA to support our Oracle8i, 9i, and 10g database environments.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a variety of different Oracle databases, including 24x7 e-commerce, data warehouse, Oracle Applications, and development and test databases. Primary responsibilities will include high availability, backup and recovery, database security, capacity planning and space management, performance monitoring and tuning, and logical and physical database design. Secondary responsibilities will include administration duties for a small number of SQL Server environments, and our Application Server 10g infrastructure.



This position requires carrying an on-call pager on a rotating basis. This position does not require travel.

Requirements
3+ years continuous experience as a production DBA in an Oracle/Unix environment with installations of Oracle8i, 9i, and/or 10g, covering all responsibilities listed above

Experience in a 24x7 environment, with a strong understanding of high availability strategies for Oracle

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well both individually and within a team environment

Ability to effectively plan and manage tasks on projects of various levels of complexity

Strong SQL and PL/SQL capabilities

Demonstrated expertise in a wide range of backup and recovery scenarios, with exposure to both user-managed and RMAN backup configurations

Solid Unix / Linux skills, preferably in Solaris and SuSE Linux

Strong knowledge of logical and physical database design

Ability to work effectively in a demanding and fast-paced environment

Experience with Oracle standby databases / Data Guard is a strong plus

SQL Server database administration experience is a strong plus

Oracle 9iAS or 10g Application Server administration experience is a strong plus

Unix shell scripting experience is a plus

Experience working in an e-commerce environment is a plus
