SUMMARY
Maintains and modifies existing software programs. Codes, tests, debugs, documents, and installs both new programs/technologies and changes to existing programs/technologies of a complex nature. Provides continuing technical support and makes the most efficient use of available software. Provides support in the solution of operating problems involving software. Develops and secures acceptance for standards and common procedures. Develops and performs unit testing and documentation of all new and modified software. Works in concert with Operations staff to automate all standard processes. Is able to work under general supervision. Works with representatives of other departments to pinpoint problems and determine specific solutions/requirements.
JOB DUTIES
· Designs/codes applications following specifications using appropriate tools
· Maintains and modifies existing applications
· Performs maintenance programming for existing version.
· Performs custom programming based on customer requests.
· Conducts unit tests of new and modified applications
· Writes or revises program documentation, operations documentation and user guides in accordance with standards
· Assumes responsibility for ongoing architecture for the product.
· Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to other technical staff members
· Ability to interface well with Professional Service staff and other non-technical members of the organization
· Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies
· Other duties as assigned
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Math, or Engineering
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- 5-7 years C/C++, UNIX - required
- 3+ years experience with Make or ANT – required
- 3+ years experience with data structure development – required
- 2-3 years Java – required
- Strong knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL

SUMMARY
The OpenCable Principal Architect is responsible for working
independently as well as part of a team to develop, design, and
manage the detailed software and hardware requirements associated
with OpenCable. This includes working with MSOs, vendors, and
external organizations to build consensus, document business and
technical requirements, create and modify specifications, insure the
specifications meets members needs and most importantly to control
and manage the architectural integrity of the OpenCable platforms.
This individual:
• Must be able to work with little or no supervision and demonstrate excellent judgment in making day to day planning and decisions.
• Must be able to represent the Director when necessary and appropriate to meet business need. This includes representation at external meetings/forums.
• Must be able to manage a technical team.
• Must be able to make presentations in front of groups of various sizes and backgrounds with little or no preparation. This includes members, vendors and Cablelabs senior management.
• Must to be the acknowledged authority on all OpenCable specifications.
• Must be a recognized expert in software architectures and technologies including:
o Java
o Flash
o UPnP
o Middleware Platforms

- Working knowledge of MS Office, Visio, Outlook etc.
- Complete understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Ability to solve problems in situations where only limited
documentation exists. - Ability to compose moderately complex
