Requirements/Experience:

B.S. in Computer Science and five years progressive work experience in a related field.
5+ years experience developing Java applications and Oracle or MS SQL Server.
Advanced understanding of JEE development patterns.
Experience with JSR-168 or JSR-286 Portal frameworks and servers such as JBoss, Liferay, WebSphere or WebLogic.
Experience with Spring MVC and Dependency Injection, Struts and JSF.
Experience working with JSP, HTML, AJAX, XML and CSS.

University of Colorado - Senior Oracle Database Administrator, Senior Associate Director of Support

The department of University Information Systems (UIS) is recruiting for a Senior Oracle Database Administrator. This senior position exists to support and provide architectural advice regarding Oracle database platforms within the Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS) unit of University Information Systems which provides critical administration, operational and development support for UIS databases. This group also provides 2nd tier troubleshooting for user access issues as well as 3rd tier support for application and database performance issues. This position coordinates with other ECS groups, Application Development and application managers to ensure alignment of plans and to meet customer needs and expectations. The incumbent will be responsible for continuously improving the technical skills, standardization of platforms and operational processes utilized in the group.


Specific Responsibilities:


-10% Technical Leadership
Provide on-going leadership and guidance to DBA team regarding projects, daily issue resolutions,and process development. Work with the team to continually improve knowledge of Oracle and UIS supported applications and related technologies and practices by reading, study, experimentation, and training. Research new features or specific issues for use in current operations or future development. Document database configurations and practices. Share knowledge with rest of DBA group.


-35% Database Operations and Resource Planning
Create and maintain Oracle databases. Ensure database availability during required hours of operation. Monitor database performance, identify performance problems and make adjustments to database parameters as needed. Identify problem SQL and work with developers to improve it. Monitor alert log for errors, research solutions and work with Oracle Support to resolve if needed. Troubleshoot reported performance problems, working with other support teams to identify source of problem. Monitor CPU, memory and space usage of existing databases, and project future usage for current and planned databases. Request additional resources to support projected resource requirements in advance of need. Support database users with various database issues including client software installation, database connectivity, and query tool use. Create standby databases for use in cloning and disaster recovery.


-10% Software Installation and Upgrades
Install and patch Oracle software. Stay informed about published security vulnerabilities and download and apply security patches when available. Upgrade databases to latest stable software release if certified for use with database application, to keep pace with supported software life cycle. Plan and coordinate with user groups to schedule maintenance times and upgrades.


-10% Backup and Recovery
Design and implement appropriate backup plans for each database to ensure recoverability. Create and schedule automated backup jobs and monitor status. Restore and recover databases if needed. Periodically test recovery processes. Notify production backup admins of updates, changes or new directories and new mount points, etc. for data directories. Include these changes in the Disaster Recovery Plan Review, modify and test Disaster Recovery plans for production databases annually or as needed. Make adjustments from lesions learned and update the DR Plan with those changes.


-20% Development
Participate on development project teams for systems using Oracle databases. Advise and advocate best usage of Oracle database features and database design. Create, maintain, backup and refresh databases for use by development teams. Migrate projects and changes from development database into production database. Support database users with various database issues including client software installation, database connectivity, and query tool use.


-10% Project
Represent database resource capacity within the project planning and implementation process. Coordinate availability of resource hours in light of other projects and daily support needs. Provide input and recommendation as it is relevant to the database needs of projects at meetings, to manager, and the Executive team when requested. Provide status updates on database responsibilities within project timeliness.



Minimum Requirements:


- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree;
- At least five years of in-depth experience in the design, administration, and support of enterprise-class database systems (Oracle preferred);
- In-depth experience with Oracle 10g and 11g;
- Hands-on experience managing databases within an Oracle RAC and Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) environment;
- Hands-on experience in a 24x7 support environment, including tuning and load balancing of databases and applications, clustering, backups & restores, and troubleshooting;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Demonstrated expertise in systems analysis;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, experience providing technical and/or team leadership, must be able to deal effectively with diverse skill sets and personalities and work effectively as a team player.

- Professional experience with RMAN, Data Guard, Linux, shell scripting;

The University of Colorado Boulder, Office of Information Technology is hiring a Senior Associate Director of Support.

The Sr. Associate Director of Support reports to the Director of Communications and Support (who reports to the CIO) and is responsible for setting clear, measurable goals for improving faculty, students and staff satisfaction with OIT services and for creating a customer service orientation within the organization that fosters excellence. This position will provide leadership for the following areas:
- Campus computing devices: includes desktop support, imaging, deployment, troubleshooting and support for administrative academic and research groups across campus.
- IT Service Center (help desk): includes phone and email support for the Boulder campus as well as IT phone support for the other three University of Colorado campuses (Denver, Colorado Springs, Health Sciences). The IT Service Center also provides phone support for University Information Systems (UIS), which is within University System Administration. These inter-campus relationships are evolving into a shared services model.
- Student Technology Centers: provide walk-in support for hardware and software issues for students, faculty, and staff on a first-come basis.

The ideal candidate for Sr. Associate Director of Support has successfully built an IT organization that is service-oriented and customer-focused. She/he is an agile and responsive manager experienced in leading an organization in meeting strategic goals in a demanding and decentralized environment. She/he demonstrates and ability to:
- Tackle the challenges of cultural change in collaborative style.
- Build an effective organization by developing and empowering staff.
- Implement effective and efficient toolsets and processes that improve the support and delivery of IT services.
- Provide transformational leadership to create a customer-focused service organization
- Collaborate effectively with a diverse customer-base, one that includes students, staff and faculty.
- Manage the day-to-day operations.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Five years progressive management experience in IT or other related customer service-oriented function, with a minimum of three years supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated success in leading organizational transformations.
- Collaborative decision-making style (i.e. demonstrated ability to gather input and discuss strategies from diverse constituencies in order to formulate strategic direction).
- Demonstrated technical aptitude in the areas for which the position is responsible.
